kato (37642km): Francois Peron National Park, WA, AU Another hard day in Shark Bay. Lighter day today, so a chance to play with a new fin and get some fitness into my body. Did some great down wind cruises in this huge play area. Great fun sailing with Crasher and PD from WA and Daffy and Matt Sl 66 ,Koncept 7.5 Volt 38 | ||||||||||||||||||
Ado (4489km): Inverloch Angling Club, VIC Arrived just after the peak high tide to find the Southerly Busters packing up after a morning session. The westerly wind was pr0bably gusting over 35 knots. I rigged a 5.0 Koncpet and stuck an MXR UFO20 Symmy on the Mistral SP41, donned an impact vest and helmet and headed out to Poo Shooters. That fin is solid! What a crazy run that is. The wind would have been 25 baseline with sustained gusts around 35+. The run is short and hairy with a kink in the sand bar which meant high peak speeds but far lower 10sec speeds. First 40+ peak speed at that run I believe. After 10 or so runs there the tide started running out and I needed a quick break so I headed back through half metre chop in 30 knots. After a break, the middle bar started poking out so I went for a few runs in ball bearing smooth water. Three peak runs over 40+ and one almost 40knot 10sec run. Awesome gybing and fast alphas. Another break and hooked up with Peter to sail until 7:30pm. By then the Angling club bar poked out and I thought if I'm going to go fast when tired, may as well stick 5kg of lead in the impact vest. First run was 40.8 peak! The wind had dropped off maybe 5 knots but the water smooth and the angle was perfect. I reckon if the bar was out around 3pm when the wind peaked I could have sustained speeds around 42-43 knots. Next time! What a great place to sail! |
