Sherman Island, Rio Vista, CA, US

PD 115, LB 7.8, F-HOT RS2 40

Distance day. 100 km in the morning and 60 km in the afternoon. Mid day was ebbing hard, too choppy for cruising around on slalom gear, otherwise 250 km would have been easy. Maybe next time I'll mix it up with wave gear...

Great session Boris, well done on the distance PB, I figured you had gone to Sherman when I saw the forecast. Game on!

Congrats on the PB, Boro! I was wondering how long it would take you to re-take the lead in the yearly rankings. I did you think you'd do it with a distance number Surprised

Here's the latest update on the 2017 USA Speed Challenge over on GPS-Speedsurfing.com

August 1st, 2017

To date 77 sessions have been entered so far in 2017 by 6 different sailors. The overall ranking remains unchanged but Alexander Sosnin improved his best 100m speed to 35.73 knots and still leads the NE division. Washoe Lake seems to be back in play for the SW division with Boris and Denis eagerly anticipating the next good blow to get into the 40 knot range. Meanwhile in the Gorge the sandbar at Hood River was washed away in the Spring along with Lyle sandbar that has silted up. A potential location out near Maryhill may produce some decent speeds when the wind switches back on after the current heatwave.

The overall 2017 100m ranking is:

1. Kean Rogers 41.09 knots

2. Boris Vujasinovic 38.632 knots

3. Denis Savelyev 38.086 knots

4. Dean Withrow 36.53 knots

5. Alexander Sosnin 35.73 knots

6. Barton Brown 28.95 knots.

Divisional Rankings as of June 15, 2017

NW: 1. Kean Rogers 41.09 knots
NE:  1. Alexander Sosnin 35.73 knots
SW: 1. Boris Vujasinovic 38.632 knots
SE:  1. Boris Vujasinovic 37.35 knots

Not sure if Roo noticed this is the GPS Team Challenge, not gpsspeedsurfing.com, so here's an image of the current year US ranking where Boro regained the lead with his PB:

Congrats to Boris on being back at the top of the rankings, he's a worthy competitor. It's great to see different people leading over the course of a year and keeps the challenge interesting. Just goes to show you can be a smaller windsurfer and sail in your own backyard and still have a chance to lead. That's the beauty of the GPSTC, sail hard, play hard and enjoy yourself, I certainly do. Still 5 months left in the year and I'm sure the leader board will change again. Game on everybody.
