Wild day out on Sandy Point, CT. We were chasing the wind and hoping to dial it in as it went up and down dramatically. Low tide and choppy waters made the speed runs challenging. I got one good gust and saw 38 knots for the first time. I thought that the next run would be 40..., but the wind dropped suddenly. My top 5 runs ranged from 31 knts to 37 knts. Tough sledding... C'est la vie, next time. Beautiful day on the water with Peter, Nina and Bart.

Sandy Point, CT. Fun to be out with the team, but my timing today was ridiculous. Rigged to 32 mph when it seemed the wind was going down, and was then blown off the water when it picked up to 40s gusting 50 as soon as I went out. Being on the speed board in up & down wind, and having to go through a mile of chop to get to the sand bar, was a bad idea. Tried to switch to a larger board when the wind dropped, only to have it pick back up to 40 just as I sailed back to the sandbar. Got about 20 minutes in 5 hours where the gear was right for the conditions, but had spent most of my energy by then. Well, at least going over to Egg Island will feel easy next time, and the little swim through the shipping channel if the wind drops will be shorter than today's swim session.

Fantastic PB Dean,  so close to the magic 40. Hope you get lots of storms this winter.

Thanks Roo! I'm hoping for lots of storms also, but will do my best to break the 60 knot barrior on ice not 40 on water. :-)

60 knots...wow. Be nice to do both this winter.

Congrats on the PB, Dean! Considering the less-than-ideal conditions today, I bet you could get 40 at Sandy Point if tide, wind, and wind direction line up.

Congrats to Dean, his 37.16 knot run over 100m moves him into the lead for the NE division of the 2017 US Speed Challenge. https://www.gps-speedsurfing.com/default.aspx?mnu=event&val=478 knocking Alex down to second. Two months left to hammer out some decent speeds and see who's the fastest windsurfer in the USA for 2017!Wink

Well done to everyone who braved the conditions at Sandy Point, hopefully the stars will line up and 40 knots will go down there soon. Could be a tight race between Dean and Alex for the honours with Bart close on their heels.
