A great day in the PiT! I started very early at 12.30pm just after the initial change so I could have a sail with Peter J. He had to leave early and did so just as the wind kicked the first time. I got my best run just as he got in the car to leave at 1.50pm. Poor timing Pete.
I started on the 5.8m and JP 70L slalom. Not really that well powered and gust, shicty wind.Just as Peter got off the water at about 1pm, I switched to the CA40 speed board. Struggled at first but then snagged a nice little squall for a 41 peak speed. Then it backed off a bit for a while. A few others atrted turning up and I was getting tired. Thinking the 5.4m would make it easier and might be faster, I changed. Got a few nicie 39's, but still underpowered. By now there was quite a crew out but I was fading fast. I went and got the JP slalom again just so I could keep going as it seemd to fill in better all the time. Hit the wall on that on a few runs at 38 knots. Now shattered and had to give up after 4 hrs. Cursing my lack of sailing fitness. Been too long between drinks.
It was all the more disapointing because I could see the wind was getting better and more consistent at a better angle. Sure enough, the Yanakie weather station showed the best period of wind from 5pm to 6pm, just after I quit.
Good to sail with Peter, Kato, Tiges, Kempster and all the others. Pity I could not have stayed longer. I am now motivated to start an off water fitness program. Congrats to Tiges and Kempster on the PB's!!
