lake George, SA

An early inspection trip with some 15-20 knots winds for a couple of days before the Big Blow! Got there late after car trouble. Gary already had 70 odd KM up! Cool

Lots of big patches of very thick weed and a few large bare patches as well. Most of the lake has moderate weed just below the surface. The thick weed is much thicker than in 2012-13, but still don't need Delta type fins. My Tribal Weedspeed was fine but I could feel the drag at low speed in the thick stuff. At 20 Konts I don't think I could feel any signoficant drag. I was in onw large patch were it was chest deep and weed right to the surface, No was the walk and push through it! I started to go down and chak out the lower lake arounf the island and got halfway there and broke my oldest alloy boom. I knew I should have retired it last year! Undecided

I had some fun jury rigging it on the good side and sailed back most of the way. Went out again  with carbon boom but was on my own so didnt stay long.

I will try to scout the lower lake tomorrow.

IS87, 6.2m KA Koncept, Tribal weedspeed 27cm, GW52 GPS.

Big Blow?  what forecast you looking at? it's changed 10-15 knie now Wink  When the water levels drop I don't think you would be able to sail through that weed it will be sitting on the surface and it's like steel wool never seen anything like it, see ya end of next month when the real action happens.

I bought a secondhand carbon boom and it busted the 3rd session..I weigh 65kgs! Surprised I must admit I do feel safer with carbon though..

Mike. I break carbon booms too! Frown

That one I hung onto too long. 2 years and chuck them. Still a LOT cheper than carbon booms, and I can have 3 or 4 of them. Laughing
