Bruce Healey (24292km): Lake George, SA, AU Epic day, started late, 10am, cold nbut the sun came out & warmed up as the day progressed, TS1, 5.9, 23 weedy at the start for the hour attempt. If its not a PB then I will never get one, it was magic, choppy but a regular easy chop & flat water gybing at each end, only off the plane for one gybe where the wind absent. After lunch it kicked in & I ended up with CASP44, 5.5, 16 delta XP50 & the the old delta 16 I usually use & it was faster. Weed dragging on the 45 degree weedies so used deltas an the speed board. Funny, as the day goes on the wind pushes the water out to the big lake & it got flatter, not budgie smooth but really good. No mud, not many marsh flies. Andy & Byron flying, Sue out for ages I think as she still going as I left. Kato on a 24 hour distance attempt, the Budgies were going well & heaps of PBs around. Tibor, Sue now has a better 2 sec than you, should have come.
Byron Mcilveen (64411km): Lake George, SA, AU S2 venom 7, 6.3 and 5.7, ca44 and exocet rs2, Great day felt like i could go alot quicker but just wanted a bit more in the flat but it was unreal. Went for the hr 4 times every time my fins would get stuck in weed and you couldnt get going so gave up 40 and 45 deg fins are not good enough here. Borrowed a 50 deg fin started another hr after doing 200km at the 30 min mark i was over 31 knots then yep weed again had to swim in the weed then went down into big lake bad mistake 4 foot chop went from doing 32 knots to doing 25 then the wind died still bloody unreal day just hope i get another chance.
sboardcrazy (25098km): 25-30kts SSE Lake George, SA, AU.. 5m OD - iso80ltre - 24cm FF then 5m OD - 50ltre iso - 20cm FF then 4.3m KA Koncept Well I'm really proud of myself... I meant to try for an hr today and then try for 2 sec although I'd long ago given up on breaking the 35kt barrier.. I was really in a bad headspace..over it all ready to go home ..I didn't want to sail..Got there c 1pm and i'd left it too late and it was gusting to 27kts which is speedboard territory for me not 1hr.. Rigged the 80iso with the 24cm FF and 5m and expected to get annihilated..bit of meltdown when I first hit the water as I really didn't think I was up to it. got over the other side and got a bad dose of heart palps..Had to sit for 15mins till i felt well enough to flip the rig and walk into deeper water but i was still pretty bad so it was a shaky teip back to shore..only 32kts odd.. I really wanted to do at least 5 runs as I usually get buggerall bearaways.. Rested until they turned off and put the speedboard on..really mega powered with the 5m..all finesse went out the window..i just wanted to get over the other side in one piece..1st run I got 36.07kts ( amazing how that figure gives you a pep up..next one was 36.75kts and i think the whole lake would have heard me yelling as i went down the strip..it was such a buzz! Think I got a 35kt next but I was starting to feel dodgy heart wise so i came in and laydown.. It took 45mins but it finally came good enough to do a few more runs..although it was still in the background a bit. Daffy had kindly lent me his 4.3m Koncept and it was great! I didn't change down until about 4pm ..pity I had to liedown as by the time i got back out it wasn't as strong. The 4.3m was lovely going up and across the wind but not enough downwind..Did a few more but I was having to rest at the end of each until I felt good enough to sail.. Last run was a bit worrying as the wind had died and I thought I'd be stuck over the other side but I maneged to get a puff to start.. I think it will be PB city tonight! I'm glad the Lake Macquarie guys and Budgy guys scored such a good day.. that was the strongest wind I've had since I've been here and it is much flatter than it was 2 weeks ago ( also shallower).. 1st time with a decent go on the 20cm FF.. Bleeding brilliant! Never even looked like letting go ( thank goodness as that could have been nasty ) and obviously isn't slow either.. I bought an 18cm for Budgy as I thought the 20cm would be a bit too deep but the 20cm is ideal down here... All the girls put in a great effort and should be proud of themselves! I'll have to take a pic of the 2 sec when I work out how to do it..

Andrew Haigh (50238km): Lake George, SA, AU At last a SE wind!! Started off on IS90 and 20cm Kestrel with the 6.3m. I was keen to do another 1 hour attempt but had several false starts before the wind picked up enough to get going. Started at the southern end of the lake which allowed for 3 km of off the wind sailing. I needed this as I had trouble holding my position wih the 20cm fin in about 1 foot of chop. As the hour progressed the wind really picked up. 21 Gybes in total, fell off on number 16 as the chop was getting worse and worse further down the lake. I was ready for a break after that, but was keen to do a NM attempt, so slogged all the way back to the southern end of the lake. Did one NM run and got a PB of 32.646. Came in for lunch. After lunch rigged 5.5 and got on the speed board. Got two runs over 40 kts managed to squeeze in 5 runs before the wind backed off giving me a 5*10 PB of 38.252. An absolutely epic day, everybody was getting PBs! |
