Arrived LG after a few days doing great ocean road. On arrival at Beachport, there was a light westerly. So turned right straight to the lake. Met up with Bert, Andy and Jill at Packers point.
The wind looked really good. I was thinking 6.3, but Andy said the foam was making it look windier than it really was. He was right, the 7.0 was not really enough, neither was the 90 litre board. Cruised around checking out the weed. Most of the lake has good looking weed about 500mm below the surface, it has that rather unpleasant wire wool feeling. There is an area perahps the size of three footy pitches south of the spit and west of the little island that has weed close to the surface in some spots only 50mm down. My 40 degree ground to an abrupt halt.
I had forgotten how big the lake is.
I think the water is significantly warmer than last year - which is a good thing.
Today the wind was particularly patchy, the chop in the middle was unpleasant, I spent a fair amount of time off the plane, I didn't find any flat water, I had the wrong sail, wrong board and for all that it was still a great days sailing. There is something specail about this place, you can't help but enjoy it.
