Andrew Haigh (50322km): Lake George, SA, AU SE 20-30kts FF70 and 6.2, then 5.4. 17cm then 24cm then 17cm Lazy morning waiting for the wind. Got to 5 mile at 12.30 and rigged the 6.2m. Much windier and choppier than it looked. Scary bearing away in big chop. Decided to go to the north end of the lake. Got the truck as far as the gate, but couldn't get passed a low tree a bit further on. So launched from the north side of the gate. Nice run down towards the spit. I tried looking for the flat area that I had seen a few days ago, but sadly there was not much there. I could see others on the north side of the spit, so headed down that way to check it out. The angle of the wind meant that you needed to bear away from the spit, which did not really work for me with a 17cm fin. | ||||||||||||||||||
sboardcrazy (25135km): 20-27kts + SSE Lake George, SA, AU Death defying.. I intended to go for an hr. Yesterday had lulled me into a false sense of security so I rigged big. Tired so rigging was a pain... 1 run 6.6m KA Koncept - 87ltre iso - 21.5cm FF Frickin over the top.. rerigged 5m OD - 80ltre iso - 18FF - frickin over the top Ok I'll try the 50 ltre and if that's too much I'll call it a day. argh!!! The board is locked on top of the van and the key is back at the house. grr grr By now I was ready to take my toys and go home.. Went and got the key back to the lake. Rigged the iso50..by now the wind had picked even more. Ok try one run and if it's too much call it a day.. Across the lake - holy crap! Did i say it wasnt choppy? Add 10kts of wind and Got to the other side and felt all the body parts.. yep.. all ok.. Well I didn't stack it or even look like having trouble...so I suppose it was ok.. Back across holy crap...yep survived that.. Death defying and getting 29 and 30kts.. Finally found a slightly flatter bit in on the launch side.. still scary as ..got a 32kts + Had another go in front of 5 mile and scored 35kts on the dial.. stoked.. lots of yeehaas.. nice to get a small bit of flatter water. Proud that I persisted and survived. I could have easily left it for the day. Chris , Gabe , Dezza, and others. After some death defying runs Andrew, Daffy and some others left to try for flatter waters at the Spit.
