Finally snagged some great conditions, nice 20knot and small tides so just rough instead of frightening. Started with bump and jump 6.5 Ezzy and 112 FSW which was a bit of a handful, then changed down to the CA SL58 as the tide dropped and things revrted from waves to chop. Out with Phil, Gordon and Dave who got an intro to Mackay conditions while here for work

A bit of a dodgy sail to the beach. Sailed down wind to double island hoping to find flat water and better wind, only to find i had left it too late and bounced off the bottom as soon as i crossed onto the reef flat. Spent the next 40min dredging back up wind to Clifton and sailed there for the rest of the session.
Used, Isonic W72 Overdrive M3 7.0 and Tribal SW 31

Mostly rubbish today but did manage some nice runs on Double Island Reef flats before the wind dropped out .
Big effort getting back up wind to the start point .Kel ,Gaz & Toody all made Kameos today so good to catch up .
Too much South for much of the session ...
Might be better tomorrow ??

1674 days ago Holloways Beach, QLD, AU MAGNIFICENT TO BE BACK OUT ON THE WATER!!!
First sail in a few months after a slow & ongoing recovery for the fractured fifth L metatarsal. Was a bit anxious to begin with but soon got into the swing of things.
Great to catch up with B1 who joined me for a blast (whilst we adhered to the social distancing rules of course) - pretty sure B1 also enjoyed himself, albeit, with us both enduring the flukey on/off wind conditions for the most part. At times the wind somehow even seemed a little SSW... Rather large rolling swell out wide where the wind was a little more consistent...
Nice to see quite a few of us got out on the water! - think we saw Tony the Truckie's sail flicking way way over South of Machan's Beach.
Bit tender now... Seriously lacking sailing fitness...
Used Big Woody Futura 124, Severne OD 7.8 M2, Tribal 36

Had a great afternoon out there with newbie Mark and my Boss, Ed - and Rick. Bill Wiltshire and his daughter, Emily had finished up by the time we rocked up at 2:30. Not quite as much wind as we expected. i rigged V8 7.2 on Fox 120. Ed went with his Fox 105 and NCX 7m. Mark has been going through his 20 year old gear, snapping and breaking most of it in the process. Ed should have told him to chuck it all in the bin. Still the guy is motivated and can still pull a gybe and waterstart. Today we introduced him to the proper amount of downhaul and, wouldn't you know it - his first run out he snaps his 20 year old mast and stuffs a clip on his boom. Only 400 metres out and a kind kiteboarder towed him back in. I've lent him a mast for tomorrow. Ed said I was looking the best I have so far this year. I had a great time just cruising around - just the way I like it - nothing fancy, just blissing out, cruising down the rolling waves and so on. Hopefully the wind stays as predicted tomorrow and Monday - what a great run of steady wind... could this be the year we've all been waiting for? Hope you all got out in it. Cheers.

Nice sunny afternoon in the river on the low tide with John and Sean. Amazing how the sandbank is building back up after the 2011 flood.

Fun but physical arvo at the mud pit with B2. Good signs whilst we were rigging up, so good I thought id take the 72 with a 7.0m - see how we went. I had a wild expectation that the breeze would build to somewhere near the 20kt mark anbdthe 7 would be way more managable....Mmmmm, never mind.
Headed out with B@, who disapeared over the horizon and I didnt really see him for about an hour. Came back with barnacles on his board he was away that long !!! Again, same as last week, it was meager pickings inside. Bluuf and bluster, then it was a mill pond, bluff and bluster, rough as guts, then nothing and it continued like that until you ran smack bang into the proper wind line, about 4K's off shore where it was pretty wild.
Super effort by B2 to have such a great session after 12 weeks out with a busted foot. He happily shot past me on several occasions with a smile on his dial. Great to be out but. Really was a cracking Autumn arvo on the the water despite the inconsiderate breeze shifting offshore, Southerly, easterly, nothing at all !!!! .
Used: Motion, WT72, WT43, 7.8 OD M1 - super effort from all who got out today.

1674 days ago 1 categories Port Douglas, QLD, AU..Yeah not a bad session in Port with the boys..Had a big tide running, breeze looked ok..So rigged fully pumped nocam 7m on 105 Fox ran a big 40cm fin wanted plenty of drive up wind to fight fast in coming tide..wind was a bit up and down but freshened up in the second half. Had to put 7m in to full crank down mode was tempted to do a fin change as well but that would of meant walking to the car park, 'way to much effort' Fox was still happy but would of pick up a little more speed in top gear blasting in a choppy sea.Fox took some big hits out the back on the reef break which made me nervous because thats what kill my last Fox but new one is still all good..Spent to much time talking and helping Rick tune his 107 Isonic had to sail till the lights came on just to get a few kms in..The new kid on the block bombed out early with broken gear, new it was gunna happen proberly should of told him to chuck most of it in the bin but didn't want to hurt his feelings..Think Andrew was taken him under his wing and managed to find some spare toys to get him back on the water..I have donated a burnt out sail and a in flight out haul system for his boom so i have done my bit..All good fun..Not sure who gets'man of the match' today..Both Rick and Andrew were on fire today sailing really well..Guess it was worth rigging up for..Cheers Ed..
