Conditions were pretty close for while, but not quite.

First two runs were too broad and the second especially was quite scary and almost out of control with large chop. Both the first 2 runs were only 34 knots.

Then the wind suddenly swung more south and the water flattened off a lot. The best angle was now in the biggest gap in the dunes as well so the thrird run was the best one. It felt easy compared to the previous two slow ones!

4th run the wind was still the good angle but under 30 knots and not powered up enough. 37.5 peak.

5th run was just as the wind swung more west again, It was s bit stronger, still OK angle but the watter was quickly chopping up. But the time I was walking back, the wind was almost dead West and the course was getting really choppy again. Peter J was trying to start as I got back to the start area but was not having much succes becasue it was way too broad. I really wanted to do a couple more runs but that showed me it has gone far too West again. Even if you got going, you would be too borad, too quick and the speeds would probably have been low. So I walked back the the car.

There were some strong squalls coming through as we rigged so I did the 5.2m and the 4.7m. In the end I just used the 5.2m and that was spot on.

Just as we finished packing up the wind had swung back WSW and was honking, but were were over it by then. Embarassed

Great to sail with Kato, Peter and Tone. One of those days where there wasn't any outstanding  speeds to write home about, but it was an great adventure anyhow. It's just so good to be out in the wild weather. Laughing

A good day at the Pit with Craig, Andrew and Tony. Looked a bit wild but was up and down, swinging around a lot. And the dunes have grown further making more wind shadows and less gaps. Walking back up the run this is very obvious.

But great to be out in the wild weather and getting a speed fix. Glad to see Craig back on the water albeit briefly. I hope that your injuries aren't worse after today.

The last couple of run attempts I got up on the plane on my small speed board, hooked in, got in the straps, only to shortly after come off the plane due to gaps in the wind from the big dunes. Quite frustrating. Always good to catch up with a few fellow maniacs out in the wild and cold weather.

Was thinking of you guys down there , oh those dunes are soooo annoying . Brings tears to my sailing eyes. I would love to hire a big excavator for the night and bring it back to how it was 30 years ago 😂😂

Yes Peter, ten years ago we would have all pulled 40knot+ runs on a day like yesterday - or at least Daffy and Kato would have easily! But the dunes just make it too erratic and squally. Walking back up it was almost dead calm behind some of the big dunes and then you step into howling 30+ knot winds as you enter the few and shrinking gaps between dunes.

Andrew just sent me a link to this rare instance of me going faster than him. Most times anyone does this the video "hits the cutting room floor"! lol! Tongue outWink
