SSE- 25kts+ - Lunchtime survival foiling in a fresh southerly. Went south to a very weird, empty Belmont Bay (on a windy Saturday!) looking for some flatter water but found none. Heaps out at Valo. Most ive seen for a while. Too lumpy today.

Coal Point, NSW, AU. Southerly 12-25kts

Fanatic Stingray, Whisperer and 5.5m.

It's been 15 weeks since I last sailed. To be honest I didn't miss it, it's strange how the mind works.

I rigged the race foil as the wind was picking up and very nervously ventured out on it. It became clear very quickly that either I had forgotton how to foil or I was on the wrong gear. I came in and got out the trusty old Whisperer. After 10 minutes of getting smashed against the shore at coalie I managed to get out. Life was a little better on the Whisperer but along way from being fun. I met Hugh over at belmont and attemped to follow him around the lake. For the first hour or so, I just hung on and hoped the muscles would remember what to do. If I had come in then I think I could have given up foiling - really what is all the fuss about?

But I didn't come in, I pushed on, not wanting to post a session with a top speed under 20. Eventually the angry dolphin I had been riding slowly morphed in to a plush flying carpet. I twisted and turned around slappers who couldn't get planing and guys learning to wing ding. I didn't want to come in, but my weary body had had enough.
