Coal Point, NSW, AU. Foil + 4.8 Hucker. Kicked in around 1pm and was around 15-20 for the arvo. Heaps out with the state round being at Coalie today. Heaps of wingers. Water was very weedy and heaps of chop due to racing yachts, glad to be on the foil today.

175/F4 Foil SL 800/8.0 then 135/F4 SL 800/5.8

Epic day at Coalie for the first round of the NSW GPS/SLalom series. A great roll up of finners, foilers, wingers enjoyed a classic NE breeze that built from around 15 kts for the first half hour GPS and kept strengthening to around 25 kts for the second full hour GPS and finally, a super juiced figure 8 slalom! (4 x heats)

I welched on the full hour GPS as I just can't do full tilt for 80km in a day! But plenty kept the peddle down and should be rewarded with some super numbers. The highlight of the day was the slalom racing for me. Pouring into the gybe marks with finners and foilers either side of you was just exhilarating and, surprisingly, safe! Everyone showed a great "duty of care" to each other! (although I may have lightly clipped a prostrate Brucey at the Northern mark)    The conditions probably suited the top finners more today but racing amongst all the foilers was just amazing! The IQ guys were somehow holding down their 9M's whilst I was struggling to hold down a 5.8! Great to see everybody, old friends and new.

Thanks to Murray, Byron, Ian and James who do it all! Especially Ian who gave up his chance for slalom glory to serve on the boat. Thank you el Presidente!

Great day with everyone out at Coal Point.  Wind started around 11am and filled in as the day went on.   Couldnt have asked for better conditions for slalom.   Great effort by Muz, Byron, Jeff and Ian to organise. and big thanks to Ians brother Glenn who helped on the boat.   Longest distance sailed in a day in ages for me - can hardly walk now, but it was worth it!

Well the forecast over delivered what a solid day of sailing I'm stuffed.

Great turn out for the event with 20 rego's and now 20 very happy people who enjoyed each others company, comradery and competition. A few notable absentees and potentials who we will continue to work on to make these events bigger and better in the future for everyone.

Massive thanks to Ian and Glenn for making the slalom happen which was the highlight of the day, nothing beats a timed start, joseling for positions and keeping the pressure on. Also the rest of the team that make it happen, today was satisfying when it all comes together!

Great day at the Slalom and GPS event at Coal Point.

Great to see so many people out all having a great time. Thanks to the organisers for pulling it all together.

Sadly my trust 5.5m TR7 developed a huge rip in the lower panel today after a mere 138 sessions on it. Twenty minutes later I ripped a 2 ft tear in the luff pocket when my equally aged hard top mast decided to snap leading into the third slalom race.

First sail in over a month. Grabbed the wrong mast. Glenn came to my rescue. Thanks Glenn.

Good crowd of water babies at Marmong today. All type of sail craft were there.

Great day, thanks to Byron, James & the others for organising and Ian for sacrificing his slalom to run the boat.

Did the best half hour, 36.54 knots, shame that I forgot to turn on the GPS. C'est la vie, that's french muz.

patchy 10-21kts ENE Coal Point, NSW, AU

 GPS series 1

30min GPS 2sec - nm - 7.5m Turbo- WT64 ( 112ltres) - 35cm tectonics weed demon - 8 - 13/14kts

I wasn't sure whether I'd bother today. I haven't really felt up to my usual standard since coming back from lockdown but with a 10-12kts ENE I figured I could hang on 30min.

Next time I'll wear an extra watch as I had no idea how long I'd sailed. I came in 5 mins early but luckily had scored a bit of wind. The first 75% was subplaning but it came in enough to score a reasonable nm and ok 2sec for the middle.

Funny I came in thinking the part where I had wind was after the session so I was happy it was in the time. Both nms I had to get work to get going and I'd be getting along fine till some obscenely massive cruiser would go through the middle in front and you'd have to negotiate it's 1.5m multiple messy wakes which would often just bring me off the plane again..Yell

Anyway I was reasonably happy that  for once I may have managed to have a go in segment.

I was pretty tired after that and wasn't intending to go in the one hr. I didn't think I had the energy to cope with being powered up in the boat wake.

It had picked up to 12 -20kts. I thought it was going to come in strong and messy like yesterday and I wanted to have some fun on the 7m - WT57 ( 90ltre) - 28cm WT weedy before it got to B & J conditions..

I went out on that combo and was very powered up . I only did one run and it was fun but tiring so I decided I needed to rig down for comfort.

Failed  sort  of 45 min attempt-  5.7m gator- WT57 - 24 stealth weedy

I decided I may as well try for an hr but only got  45mins as I was 15 mins late after I rigged.

The earlier test run was obviously the strongest and it had died down and I didn't have enough. 90% plodding. I did get 2 nm goes where I was planing and it was fun.I think the 7m would have been a handful but the 5.7 wasn't enough.

Absolutely buggered by now so I didn't consider the slalom. Rerigged the 7m combo as it had died a bit , the boats had gone and I was hoping for a few nice runs to Carey and back.  It had died to  a patchy 10-15kts over that area so I slogged all the way except for the last little bit.

Sounds like it was much better over the other side.

Packed up and went home . I think I made the right decision not to keep sailing. The van wheels were spraying gravel as I took off (??).. Dur I'd left the handbrake on..Embarassed

I put my lack of energy down to lack of fitness but by the time I got home my throat was really sore and I was coughing again so this wog won't let me go..Hopefully I'll be over it and be able to try a bit more next

Good group and nice to see everyone again. I'm glad the out of towners finally got to see Coali with a bit better wind and less weed than our usual GPS.

Foilers , wingers , fins .. Earlier lots of yachts and some boats.

Norm, your debut in our events will go down as one of the best ever! Utterly faultless in the slalom and i assume just as good in the GPS. Thanks for coming along mate!
