Cruisin' around on the Party Barge sort of arvo. The wind filled in as soon as Waldorf and Statler got out, and happily enough, just as Anita got in. I was trying for some alpha's but went way too wide, I wasn't trying for a nauti and managed a 30...go figure. Feeding time now so post more later.

Peel Inlet, WA, AU CA66 SCR6.3 cut down fangy 22 Another very enjoyable afternoon wth fellow mobsters Decrepit, Hardie and The Scud. We spent most of the session scooting thru the weedy smooth at Point Grey. 😎Remembered to turn on the Mini Motion this time too.👍as usual all my quick gybes were either too big or ended in face plants. 🤪

Another great Pt Grey session, joined by Waricle The Scud and Hardie.

Wind seemed a bit light was tempted to use the 6.6 but glad I didn't as the wind kicked in nicely.

More west in the wind today, which suited Pt Grey better, especially for the Port tack run along the weed.

Nice having a speed run in bother directions, + an alpha track through the weed.

Trouble with only having one track through the weed.

The U ends up to narrow at the start/finish.

Liptons fantastic conditions and great sailing

Was a bit disappointed with my alpha of 23.2 thought I'd done my best alpha for years, just checked with KA72 and got a 24.649, I'll send my file

Edit 23/11 = Have been informed by a member of the technical committee that Speedreader uses much stricter data criteria than KA72 to screen out data error, so I'll leave it as it is.  However,  I may start using KA72 again though, as that alpha did not feel like a 23kt alpha, I'm experienced enough to gauge the speed of alphas, and I was expecting to see 25kts+alpha because it felt that fast. The KA72 alpha of 24.649 was much closer to how it felt and having spent many years doing alphas in the 24/25/26kt range I think I can trust my experience.

Mike here, exercising captains perogative.

Joe's file had very bad data during the gybe, because he wears the GT31 on his chest. Leaning into the gybe obscures a lot of satellites directly but gives the unit a clear view of reflections from the water.  This caused the +/- values to go over 2knots. Speedreader changes these numbers to 0, resulting in a lower alpha.

KA72 seems to ignore accuracy numbers altogether, allowing some less than optimum results through.

Personally I think reducing these numbers to 0 maybe a tad harsh, so I've done a recalculation, with the offending numbers reduced by their +/- numbers. That comes out as an even 24, so I'm quite happy to see that.

But the take away lesson here is, don't wear your unit low on your shoulder!!!!

And just for comparison, here's my alpha gybe, with my DIY unit on top of my head

And here's a GW60 on my wrist.

the unit on my head doesn't change at all, and the GW60 does change going from over to under arm, but not enough to trigger filters.

Just stating the obvious Decrepit, why not cut a nice path through the weed about 49 m apart, parallel to other path, that way you have automatic Alpha optimiser and no need for fancy GPS based stuff like I am trying

Thanks chaps for the good advice on the out of bounds areas ,followed instructions on that one for once ,and thanks to decrepit for the impromptu tutorial on the dark arts of upwind sailing!😎

Yes, obvious Flex, it's just a matter of measuring the 49m. We've been having too much fun, to do that.
