6.2m M2 OD - RS2 ( 90ltres) - 18cms M2 FF
I was hoping for the 10-20kts forecast so I could rig small and go out and slog around and practise subplaning gybes.
It looked about that as I arrived so I rigged the 6.2m - RS4 ( 112ltre) 21.5cm FF but by the time I got into my gear it had kicked in 20kts plus. This is more than I want for the current state of my hand which I need to look after.
I almost whimped but decided I could just do one run and walk in if it was too much. Started out with 10cm messy ripples and built to 10-15cms chop.
I've never used the 18cm FF up here. It was rock solid at LG but the water is denser down there. It let go a bit on the first run and I didn't trust it fully ( especially at my current level of ability) so I pussyfooted it a bit. I stuffed the first gybe and decided to not try another as I was too powered up for my current ability.
I mainly kept up as I had no idea how deep it was. I probably could have gone anywhere as when I stepped off it was knee to thigh deep. I only did one bearaway and crapped myself as I sped into unknown waters..Pre injury I could probably have got 33kts plus. If you don't mind a bit of chop it would have been fun as the wind was pretty consistent.
I'm not up to speed sailing atm. There was no one else around so I kept it to a few runs and quit while I was still in one piece. The hand was ok out there but very sore coming home so I think it will be a bit dodgy for a while.
Nice to have warmer weather ( 27 degrees) and not have to worry about the cold.
Where was everyone?
