ya Tom, its weird..as a rooky myself the faster you go on flat water the easier/quieter it gets.  Welcome to the weird world of speed sailing. 99% of the effort is lining yourself up...the actual fast stuff..is well.... just joy.    The masters of course have perfected going way faster but you are officially in the 30kt club now.  Trust me, it will do your head in how Woody etc get the speeds they do.   Gotta be the most awesome sport.
