Birchmont.  Once you have taste of the glass its quite addictive.... so back at Herron with all my mates.   Wind was about same as yesterday but the tide was considerably higher.    Still plenty of glass on offer just had to go deeper....thus had a close encounter with a house brick that was removed....other than that was blissfull silent cruising in the smooth with only the odd jumping fish and a few prawns doing their tail walk thing for company whilst about 1000 pelicans watched on. Was pretty sketchy getting back through the chop with the big sail and tiny fin.

Sneaky 45 minute sail between kid sport shuttle duties. On the water at 5, off at 5:45.

8.7m 135 41MK3.

Awesome fun blasting. Dropped off the plane a few times but also got nicely powered in the occasional bullets. Got a couple of 35s both tacks, different spots.

Glad I kept my 8.7m!

Interesting looking back at March over the past 15 years. I've been out 4 days in a row and 6 times this month so far, so no complaints. Last season was OK too... nothing windy but enough to sail.

The 6 years before that it was crap- only one march session in all 6 years and that was on the 2nd of march.

Before 2015, every March was great- multiple 40kt+ sessions every year. Proof the seasons have been ending earlier than usual... consistently for the past 8 years.

obviously it is shallow, and not a lot of wind, any other reasons why is it so glassy?

Anita, one word" "Weed" Untouched by human or Fangman, fed on Pelican shit.   Todays higher tide meant sailing in the more manky stuff close to shore (as per photo) but yesterday (tide about 20cm less) was in fully alive delicate weed that was drag free bliss

Hardie, these are my tracks from today, pretty much I stuck to the smooth as rig couldn't handle chop of any kind (I'm talking 2cm chop max).  So much area to explore but South east side I guess..   Tide was -.72   Sand bar also great in the right tide....Boz has explored way more than me way deeper south but reports gets better.   Sandbar is also good in right tide through the channels.

Thanks Jim, so the flat spot was south of Heron Point in that little bay?  Did you drive and launch from there or sail there?

Surprised there is live weed in shallow water anywhere after the summer hwat

Well, there are a lot of flat spots....Launch at Herron point, bitumen all the way (and closer than Boombas for me) as per the tracks, sail 1NM SE and heaven awaits..there appears to be goat track entrance right to the smooth but not needed.   Water is about waist deep between launch and the smooth so can suit beginners but further south it gets deeper on the crossing.   Was knee deep today in the smooth stuff except where I had brick intercept.  The flats obviously change with tide but based on 2 sails these are the sweet spots (attached).

I've sailed there in a Northerly, but much deeper tide so wasn't smooth.

I think it's where Stroppo sailed a lot.

I wonder if we'll get more wind this eason to give it a go.
