Time to hit the weed man. The holes in the cheese did not align for me today with wind, travel and school buses all deciding to coexist at inconvenient times.

Captain Calm and Muffin lobbed on the driveway this morning and rumaged through my Delta quiver, then promptly disappeared off to Boombas. I tried to smile as i waved good bye. I was just a little bit jealous. Actually, a lot jealous. However I decided to have a crack at Fangys on the NNW breeze just after lunch. Before I launched I was treated to one of the local Osprey dive bombing into to catch a fish not more than 5 metres in front of me.I could have packed up there and then and been happy with the day.

Fangy's has been going crazy with weed growth. So i was keen to go and scope out what the layof the weed was. I slid the QEII down the slip after masterfully aralditing the Delta Honeycomb24 in the slot and flying the Koncept 8.5

There are now some really big bergs and large areas are affected. The densest parts are close to impenetrable even with a Delta. I charged at them fully loaded and a series of tugs and lurches slowly brought the speed right down. I didnt fall off in any of them but I reckon if I did i would have ended up looking like monster from the black lagoon in a 1950s B grade horror movie. The weed is really thick! On my tracks you can see an area I avoided altogether. They could have played footy on that bit. The tide was highest just after i went out, but as it fell(or was blown over to Boombas) the weed got harder to get through. So the ideal condition is now a higher tide at Fangys and a steeply raked fin is a must if you want to play near the bergs.

The wind was really quite good even if it was a bit religious, and i was at times overpowered on my 8.5. The big arse board and big sail asked a lot of big momma questions of the Delta. It handled the smooth easily but once in the chop between Fangys and Boundary Island it required a bit of care. I had some really nice runs back and forth and when I stayed away from the heavy weed and in the smooth water it was a lovely place to be. I dont think it would have been a patch on Boombas, but it wasnt a bad runner up. I tried for a nauti a few times but it would always have an asthma attack and run out of puff somewhere on the mile. I tried to scoot inside the weed but unfortunately this is too close to shore and it becomes too gusty to be any fun.

The only other real mischief on the day was the temperature. I know we are still in winter but today i absolutely cooked in my wettie. I had to stop and lie in the water at the end of each run in order to stay comfortable.A little cloud of steam rising each time I did.

I crashed around and explored some more but eventually a date the with school bus called an end to another Top Ten Fangy Day.Laughing

Great sail at boombas, despite a couple of mishaps, but nothing serious.

So in the end a realy fun day of sailing.  Gotta go now, back soon.  Smile

OK,...  I'm back...  so the mishaps,?  On the first session, after a few jibes the the mast base became loose and slid to the front

of the track, easy fix, then at the end of session 1 a fisherman was letting out a net from his boat. Not realising what was going on until

too late, I jibed right into the middle of his net circle,!! well just hopped over it and continued on.

After a little stop for lunch , one of Decripits condisions for sailing a long day , we set of on session 2. On the firt run out I also clocked

my fastest time and NM. At the end of that run I set up for a gibe, just as Mike had done his, thats when things went wrong, mid gibe,

off and into the soop. I thought the sail had torn, or mast snaped, but the mast had worked itself free of the end strap and the sail collapsed.

After about 15 min, and help from Mike, all was well again... and went on for another hour. Wind getting a little lighter at the end.

Well that was well worth while!!!!

Great sail at Boombas with the Fin, wanted to see if we could get Shane's "Land of milk and honey",  conditions.

http://www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Gps/LAND-OF-MILK-AND-HONEY/

Think the tide may have been a tad high as there wasn't very much glassy smooth water. The only place where it went from da,da,da,da to sh---------- was in the weed patches above the surface.

Started off with the 6.6 on the 65 with the 17cm big 55d weedy, after lunch with a bit more wind changed to the 53cm board. Thought this was going to be a better hour, but Pas's sail became disconected from the mast tip, took us about 15mins to get it back together, and the wind seemed to have dropped a bit in the meantime.

Big thanks to Fangy for lending Pas a Delta, don't think this would have happened without that kind act.

So tide was supposed to be .7m to .9m. We didn't notice much difference while we sailed, but it's probably an ideal height for anything less than a 25 delta. The sand bank out the back was a bit shallow, no more tha 30cm at it's shalowest.

Nicely done Pas, now you've pinched Elmo's jelly bean as well as getting 3PBs, and raising us up on the ladder.

that's the 3rd best hr, and the 2nd best distance for the Aussie month so far. Not bad for a 15kt day.

Only another 3 x PB's Pas?  You had better get a even brighter set of tail lights for me to chase and I'll get a 15nM radar fitted to my rig so that you can't escape!
