5-40kts + S Buff Pt Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU

Got there early to get the sailing done before the 38kts + came in..Pissing down and c 15 degrees, only one there ..I'm an idiot!!??Undecided..Not much wind either but forecast to come in so played it safe and rigged the 7mOD + 79ltre + 20 cm delta..

First run out and gusted in to c 25kts..Argh!!! Fell in and turned around and got back in at the skin of my teeth..Surprised.. Ok rig 6m...Of course the wind died Yell..Oh well went for comfort rather than speed as pretty choppy ( although calm compared to later!).

Rigged 6m OD + 95 rocket. Mostly 5 -10kts with 20kts + in the rain squalls. Got a few bearaways in ( got best speeds here). Rain felt like hail on my face. Kept my glasses on to protect my eyes until I couldn't see a b thing and it was scary as bearing off blind.. Took them off..At least I could see!

Picked up & I figured safest to get in NOW..hary ride in but survived.. Now it was really coming in..

Everyone else arriving now. Got help to put the boards on the car ( so they wouldn't blow off as i was tieng them on.)

Rigged the 68ltre Starboard acid wave + 4.2m revo sail and 18cms Makani freemove weedie.

Cripes should have had the 3.2m on.Of course I left it at home as I wasn't intending to be out in the big stuff...Yell Knew it was survival stuff just standing there waiting for a lull to launch.. Only did about 3 runs in the lulls and hanging close to the water ready to be thrown over the front at any time. Mostly I wasn't game to commit to the harness so of course no mast foot pressure and the board was flying from wavetop to wavetop. Could have done with a 40ltre board..

Most of the others out of control or standing waiting for a lull.Decided to bear off as much as game in a lull then float into shore. Once the rig was ripped from my hands decided safer to float. Lucky I had the 3-4-5mm wettie on. Waves crashing over my head.. Found the best way was to float on your back as less resistence and went faster but still took ages! Once I was at an angle where I could sort of work in waited for a lull and survival sail in..At least most of the rain had gone by now.

Well some yeehaas..pumped.. not much stat wise but I survived! Byron out with his 6.6m and overpowered so in for 5.5m. Rick didn't believe me when I said it was over 30kts and rigged the 6.3m and survival sail . ' I won't copy Byron's sail choice next time!!"

Mick. Mat . Byron. me . Frothie ( broke a batten so not out). Later Rus , James , Hugh...

Oh well I got a sail and buggered now..zz. Anyone who did over 30kts in that has balls of steel Wink ( No wonder I didn't..Innocent)

 The float in...Laughing

Graph overreads a little in a S but definitely 30-40kts +..Never get a day where it's consistent enough to enjoy my 3.2m but it would have been ideal today..Undecided

Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU tr11 6.6 , CA44 ,21 carbon home made, Then TR8 5.5m CA44 then RS2

waited in car as it rained and wind built, went out with 6.6 and got over 40 in very rough conditions must have been over a foot high chop at 40 scary shit. then got to windy sail good to 35 but way to much at 40. changed down to 5.5 and heaps beter but wind kept building and i was very powered up with this first time in ages. So much potential with wind but just not flat at Budgi anymore and weed fins suck just doesnt mater what brand when u need 48 deg for the clumps in chop no confidence at all scary and even a 39.5 knot crash no damge to gear or myself but skided for ages.

Brutal extreemly hard work but great day with so many people out in the rain

JP Slalom 55 (84L), Mauisails Legend 5.0, Delta Slalom 19cm - Wind SSW 25-35 kts

First time out on the new (old) board (Thanks Adam) and first time with a delta (thanks Greg and Andrew for the loan).   35 knots and choppy conditions probably weren't the best place to start!

Arrived about 2:30 to see Rick rigging a 5.3, and Byron/Hugh being overpowered on 5.5/5.6 - you know its windy when these guys are on small gear.   Unfortunately the weed wasnt long enough / water too high for it to be really flat.  Chop around 6 inches high, so combined with the Delta I didnt really have the confidence to really go for it downwind.   Learned a lot though and was feeling a lot more comfortable by the end.   Well done Byron and Hugh and the others who got big speeds out there today - good to sail with everyone.    The sun even came out at the end which was great.

I went out at marmong with a 4.8 and got rag dolled. I then went around to warners bay and went out with a 4.0 and it wasn't to bad. Some of the gusts a bit scary even with the 4.0 . It was very gusty at warners bay which suprised me considering it was SW. I think the rain was playing havoc with the wind. It must be 15 years easy since I've used a 4 metre. It felt ok all things considered but twitchy as hell in the gusty stuff. Pity it was SW and rainy. Imagine if it was due southerly and no rain what a day of legend it could have been.  If it wasn't for last months nuke I would be calling this the biggest southerly in years I'll have to settle for second biggest lol. It could have been epic but the bloody rain made it a bit to wild and unpredictable. Oh well hopefully some breeze left tomorrow.

Great work kiddies. Still, I'm feeling good about being sick all week, saved me getting trashed/frozen. Guess my balls are aluminium.

Rus said - was getting 36-38kts on the meter - and that strength was consistent and then plus some once you were out further! Foot in mouth

I was wondering how you'd go Rus. Told you to rig the 4m!Wink Wish I'd had my 3.2m with me..Yell How did Michael go?

Sounds like a tough day at the office. One day everything will align, strong wind, correct direction, lots of weed, low water level. Until then we will just have to enjoy the practice.

Good effort everyone.
