Obelix (3335km): Pelican Point, WA, AU Fanatic Shark 160L, 52cm, first sail 6m, then it was not enough, then fitted 8m which was too much...
Pointman (25522km): Ripper little sesh at Melville in a gusty southerly. Some nice solid 25K gusts and some big holes so usual winter inconsistency, but oversll plenty of powered up sailing on the Futura 111 + 7.5 Koncept + 40 Talon. Really good to be fully lit on the kit again after six weeks of nothing. I think Woodies woulda fired this morning, but I needed a nice Sunday cruise, not white-knuckle mayhem . Saw Claude out trialling a new 7.0 Reflex, sweet looking sail First real winter sail....noice.
Birdman (2707km): Starboard Formula 155, 7.6m2 Arrows. Melville. Sailing on a day like today makes you really appreciate the summer sea breeze - we really are spoilt here in WA.
Jeff (13640km): Got to Melville just on sunrise, the trees didnt seem to be moving at all so decided to investigate Woodmans Pt. Drove there (its changed a bit in the 20 years since I last went there ) but decided that sailing there by myself in gusty winter stuff wasnt a good idea. Then realised I was closer to Mandurastan than home so drove there. Got on the water by about 9:10 and had a good time. Wind dropped out while I was on the far side of the esturary and I "bobbed" all the way back. Then it came in nicely and seemed pretty constant for the rest of the time. 6.5 was a bit of a handful in the rain/gusts but the rest of the time it was great. so 200Km and about 7 hours later it was a good day !. Looks windy outside now so I guess I could have just waited at Melville Interesting that my 2 sec was on the sonic on my first run, I took out the CA at 11:00 but didnt get it above 29 - I guess that might be due to exhaustion and the fin/sail just not being right on it. All up a good day out.

Chris Porter (11725km): Mid afternoon blast at Woodies with Mark. Started off as a bit of punishment, after an epic day of punishment in the backyard yesterday laying turf. Couldn't pull off a gybe, swallowing water out the back and arms burning like crazy. I finally got in the groove, but still felt like a long time between drinks for me and speed sailing. Any session I can get the speed board out is a good session... plus I think this might be a PB for me on this sail? Fingers crossed for another session soon, I forgot what a buzz going fast is. lao shi (41082km): Pathetic, desperate effort at Cheese Graters (Perth chapter) Rigged before dawn hoping that there might be some wind left. Around 7 got in to damp wetsuit. Went on the water at 8 despite better judgement. Took the nonose. Put the nonose back. Spent an hour chasing puffs of wind (too small to be gusts)on the sonic. One squall for the peak speed. Warp6.3,sonic100,venom38 Afternoon session with Chris at Woodies. He had me beat for speed on all but one lucky run. All scores from Woodies except distance which is combined. Warp6.3, *brd nonose, Yoyo 27cm weedy. Should have texted me Hardpole. I didn't go to Woodies because I didn't want to be on my own so did a dawn rig at Wallyworld which was a waste of time.
Great to see a good team turn out. |
