Kyeemagh, 25-30 knots S, gusts around 40 at times

Carbon Art SL58, Loft O2 5.9, NP Alpha 4.7, 30cm Select Viper fin

I had a cunning plan to snatch a quick 2 sec peak today. I decided to be down on the bay ready to go when the front hit. I knew it was going to be 30-35 knots eventually, but I always wanted to ride the front as it hit over the smooth water. I rigged the 5.9 to the bemused looks of a few guys who had rigged 4.0 - 4.7's The first run was awesome, effortless 30 knots. Head up wind, gybe and back in to do it again. By ythe time I got back to the beach, the chop was over 1 foot and building quickly. The wind hadn't reached 30 knots yet, so I did a couple of more runs thinking that the front had petered out, but by the third run I got smashed out the back and decided it might be a good idea to change down to the 4.7.

By the time I got back out on the water, it was cranking, and I didn't last too long before I needed a break. At one point the only guys out on the water had 3.5 - 3.7's

Awesome day, huge air (unintentional) Should have taken aout a smaller board...

some wild runs down at sandringham ona 6.2 H2 and 92 LT slalom. Getting airbourne at 27 knots is not that much fun .

Very impressed with the amount of control the H@ had in the gusts. bigest problem was keeping the board down at speed.

New PB! Broke 60km/h! Finally ! ! !

Had a fairly freaky funday on my AB+ 59, with a 34cm C3 and for 1 run only a TR4 5.5. Quickly changed down to an aging Gun Mega Race 4.2 and was still occasionally overpowered near the sandbar. But underpowered in the lulls. Good fun while it was in the water.

Shimming the fin did help reduce spin-out... but still had a few sideways walks. Thankfully no catapults because of it!

But my peak speed is not all I broke!. I Managed to snap a C3 fin by hitting, wait for it, water!
I did one of those unexpected arials at speed, and when I tried to water start I realised something was wrong, looked under the board and notice a little something missing. D'oh.

It probably happened during one of the 45kt gusts. Which may explain why we were having difficulty keeping our boards in the water.

How is it possible to break a fin in water...? I thought they were designed for water sports. Oh well.

Roar offered comiserations, and in true Top Gear fashion, sailed off without me.

Managed to get back to shore with a combination of drifting, body dragging and sailing with the harness hanging off the back strap. I got planning a few times like that... freaky!

Really disappointing, relied on the forecast (SSE to SE) to try a smaller board in the channel where Rexy and I sailed awhile ago but it was so all over the shop. One minute geting smashed on a 6.2 then sinking. If it was SE it wouldve been sweet. Shit happens!!

Couldve done with the 5.5 in the gusts. Well done to the other Cockies!!!

As Pete said, not enough east in it!!

JP VI 65, RSR Evo II 6.2, broken Select weedy.

You shoulda hit Sandringham Mike. I wasn't there so don't know if the tide was right etc but it had to have been easier than the chop up at Kyeemagh.

Mike...

Sandringham had some 2-3 foot swell rolling through occasionally as well. But most of it was < 1 ft.

Of course it was flatter further up-wind.

Craig & Alpha Man - Congrats on PB's.

That's tough sailing down wind with no fin - how long do your arms feel Surprised

Like Dave, I chickened out - but Larko had a run to entertain us at Lake Dangerous.

Not enuff East in it to work there.
