Point Grey, WA, AU

first post for my new/old team.

good to catch up with elmo and decrep and to meet jamie, pas and the fangman.

also rod and stroppo.

first try with a delta as was told one would be needed for the weedbergs.

was fairly impressed with the way it performed.

even lined up a berg and nailled it right in the guts just to see what happened.

unhooked and feet out of the straps of course.

bit of a bump but kept going. prob would have gone over the front with a 45 degree weedy.

used a 102 rrd x fire with a 22 delta and a 7.0 severne reflex 3.

Tabou Thunder 70, NP RSR E6 6.4 Pepe snot slicer Weed 24.5cm 30º

A forcast which actually eventuated, first sail since 12/8.

Day started out cocking up the drilling of my new fin so went down to Boombas expecting to do a couple of runs an have the fin break out of the board, not ideal but I wanted to test the theory of how the fin would work.

Got down there and it actually looked ok some after a lot of fumbling around figurig out how to rig things up again I went out, the fin with the moster rake went surprisingly well although the front of the board was getting a bit happy waving to all and sundry.

Sailed out past the point to check what speed I'd done only to find my GPS wasn't recording, Thankfully only lost about 4km of sailing, like an IT wizard I switched it of and on again and all was good with the world.

Got some nice runs over at Boombas though not the flatest we've seen it, was having some fun when the breeze felt like it was shifting a bit so didn't do any more deep runs, all of a sudden we got a good rain squall and the wind swung 45º so began a nice 1 hour 4km upwind tack.

Eventualy left Boombas and after a bit more faffing around with a distinct lack of motivation I ended up back at Coodanup where the CST crew were giving a fine demostration of water denting, Hats of to Ryans effort of the day way of in the distance who made a spalsh like a Whale breaching.

Finally convinced myself to go out got the board set up sail out mast taped up went to grab the boom and noticed the boom clamp looked a bit strange took it out found the clamp broken figured that Franga's nobbled me, so I put the kit back in the trailer and toddled of home.

Not to bad a session although I can't say I got a stiffy from it

Boomba's and Fangy's at Sbend. Will post more after I have made some tucker for the snotgobblers. Here are some pics to keep you going:-)

My infected elbow has slowly been improving over the week and yesterday was D Day at the Dr’s as to whether this was going to be a happy weekend. My doctor then had the poor form to advise me that another two weeks with my arm in a sling will be required.

No quite what I wanted to hear.

Luckily I have enough boy brains to realise he could not have possibly been serious. I mean look at the forecast! I am sure he meant, actually it will be fine to go sailing, just take it easy on the elbow. Which I did.

I then loaded up the small kit to get set for some speed. Weirdly, the part of my scone that was responsible for commonsense and survival decisions piped up and suggested dropping in the QEII as well.

Elmo dropped me a line to say Boombas was a reasonable thing. Snotgobblers were  happy in Saturday morning mode of slob, so I hit the road to meet up with the rest of the Manbra mob and check out what new blouses Ratz had on the racks in the back of his van.

Welcome to the team too, or is that welcome back..whatever good to have you on the team Ratz.

Unfortunately Ratz taste was a bit last decade so I decided to throw on my own blouse. By this I mean, I actually shunned the go fast kit and rigged small on the QEII. The idea being I was going to try and sail a cruise session and use my harness and not my arms/elbows. I was a little stunned at my own commonsense if I am honest.

Luckily Sergeant Schulz Wazza was nearby to show me how to really disconnect the brain cells and have a solid session of ineptitude.

Firstly, a fail with rigging and as a result his sail top plug made an escape attempt. Luckily I was in no rush to go sailing as I was still convincing myself to be sensible. The errant mast plug was restored to its rightful spot only after Schulz decided to do some home surgery on his palm with a Stanley knife. In the process of spilling claret all over the joint he did actually get the sodding mast plug trimmed enough that we could get the rags rigged.

In the meantime the front went through and from we were its seemed a very impressive squall line indeed. So whilst Schulz was  providing the onshore comedy at least I wasnt out in that lot trying to be sensible.

Finally we got the blood down to a steady flow and decided it was time to hit the soup. At this point the rest of the Mobbers came in.…

Schulz and I went out. I forgot to turn around and kept going until I hit the wind shadow in behind the South Yunderup bund. The method in the madness was not to use my elbow.

This technique was pretty successful but the water over there was ordinary so I charged back over to Boombas to join my mates. Except there were no mates to be had there either.

Scott NoMates and I played around in the smooth. With a massive amount of discipline I did not bear off and go fast, nor did I try to hammer any gybes. I was just on water and getting wet. Nothing more.

This was fun for a while but I felt that perhaps I had run my luck and elbow as far as I could so it was time to come in. I followed the blood slick from Schulz home. There I found some Mobbers and the decision was to decamp and get across to Fangy’s.

I had done enough to my elbow to warrant that although things looked super inviting at Fangy’s, I simply cracked out the camera. The results you can see below.

Of course it was a Top Ten Fangy day :-)

Chair repose Boombas

Mufin, Ratz, Decrepit, Shultz (Wozza) @ Boombas

Fangy's @S bend

Wozza Shultz unhooking at speed - no it didnt end gracefully.

My favourite shot of the afternoon. Nannas Stropoo and Shanno.

 Nannas in line astern

Shanno never fails for the camera

See?

And again :-)

Nannas in consternation when someone dropped a crochet hook in the grass.

Great Nanna Stropoo feeling at home amongst the pansies.

Coodanup, WA, AU

Not my best sailing today but life goes on.

I was possibly psyched out by the "Bergs" and was overcautious. Of course, the opportunity to better my "over the handlebars" technique ( which I reckon is pretty damn good already) cannot be ignored. I forgot to put the nice comfy soft bits inside  my new Gath helmet, tried to sever my thumb with some badly arranged self-surgery and was mindful of the slick behind me..altho" I spent so much time stationary the water around me was slightly pinkish. Hit myself in the face with the mast and a resultant ricochet onto the right knee. Tried to challenge Stroppo to a weedy downwind run ( possibly concussed to even think of it!) and emerged from my waterstart looking like a vegetarian Japanese banquet.

I will be working on numerous technique issues. Full time. For a long time.

Thanks for all your encouragement MOB people.

Got to Boombas in time to get 1 NM run in, then the mega squall came through and blew us off the water. Flattened the sail out as far as I could, and managed to sail OK for about 20 min but the wind had switched and to get around the point was directly upwind. Then the wind dropped to sub planning levels for about 15min. Wind came back and had a few nice runs in the first bay, but the wind was still fluky so thought it would be a good idea to continue upwind to the cars.

Yes Cars very plural, most I've seen a Boombas, even had to spread out to 2 car parks. I'n not going to try and mention everybody because I'm bound to leave somebody out and offend them.

But I will say it was great to sail with Ratz again, you'll notice I no longer dominate the jelly bean score, about time I say.

Everybody thought Fangy's would be a better bet, so we decamped, and I did go faster there, but it was far from ideal. The wind was close to parallel to the weed banks so they didn't offer any protection, just became a hazard. Too choppy for a delta, and a bit of a hazard with a 45, as a few big splashes demonstrated.

Oh yes same thing here with cars, S bend was clogged with them, great to sail with a big crew again.

6 sept boombas tracks

So my tracks look similar to Fin's and Elmo's and I went right over Narimba Cay without relising it! Good job there was a big storm surge.

Point Grey,WA,AU

52withboard,20slalomDelta,6m Lightnig.

A morning of mixed fortunes, and shifty, changeble winds. The wind made a quik and violent swing to a more westerly direction, and of course I

got stuck waeeey down wind past the point in to boombas, but maniged to tack back dispite the delta. (pat on the back for efort.... lol )

I haven't put my numbers up yet as there where some baffling numbers,...  anyway going thrugh a 42.3kt and 40.5kt and 39s,38s I think

I found somthing more realistic,... but maybe they need to be checked first.

   So here thay are,

2s         5x10s         1hr         A R 500          NM          T D (km)

28.66    28.06       12.998      27.29,?          26.01       43.11                and a Max of 28.89kt.

NOTE, Decrep here, I've altered the post to the numbers I'm relatively confident of. This file contains a lot of spikes, and some of the results are suss.

It's possible tyhough that the 2s result was actually higher, and has been eliminated due to a bad spike.

I suppose it could be possible, it was windy there for a wile.?   Undecided

If I'd known your ability with the lens I'd had taken more care getting ready this morning... a little blusher maybe?

The bleeding's stopped and my shower drain is blocked with weed.

Fin, I think I see your 42kt problem, it's when you went levitating over the point grey hill. The GPS must have lost satellite reception for an instant and got horribly confused.

Capt'n , would it be ok to post those numbers, and can they be edited later if need be , or would it cause too much hassle

later on. ??    I can wait until you take a look at the data to see what's going on, if you want, ?
