Hard work today. We woke up after to quite days with the wind blowing. Headed out to the lake late morning to get a park at 5 Mile Drift. Maree volunteered to be the crash test dummy and on the strength of her record breaking runs with her 6.2, I rigged my 6,4. By the time I was about to hit the water, the wind had built to 22 to 25 kts, so following some timely advise from Andrew DAFF I changed down to my 5.7.
I immediately felt comfortable and had 3 good runs at 5 Mile Drift which included the 2 sec PB. After this initial success, the wind shadow on the run became more prevalent so I headed over to Cockies. Halfway across a lost it big time and broke my boom clamp rope. After putting a jury jig together with bits of broken rope I managed to sail back to 5 Mile. Note to self, carry spare rope in the impact vest next time. With the jury rig I couldn't point and had to slog through the mud for 30minutes when I missed the entry point to the beach.
After a quick change of boom, I headed back out. Tried the 5 mile speed run but it had not improved so tfollowing team orders from the Captain I ried my luck on a naughty over to cockies. Lost it big time again, this time no damage to gear but gave my ribs a solid thwack on the boom. Decided then that discretion was the better part of Valor and headed back to 5 mile. One more speed run and then called it quits.
We have a couple of days to recover before the next blow on Sunday. I'm going to need it. The ribs are very bruised and sore, but I don't think broken. Anyway nothing a good analgesic won't fix!
