Smithton, TAS, AU, An early morning sail with Johno. Decided to have a look at the Duck river at Smithton on the low tide.

Had about 17 to 18 knots NE to start which picked up to low 20s later. Sailed all but 15 minuets on the M 137 with R5 7.8

got the NM on this. Tried for a 35kn run on the M112 at the end but the banks went under and was a bit overpowered,

should have gone on the 7.0.

All up had a good look around and will sail here again.

Marion Bay, TAS, AU

CA SL55, KA Koyote 5.9

High tide, beautiful warm water, fairly constant breeze, and I was the only one out!

Was going for the hour, but still dropped heaps of gybes and was a bit underpowered at times.

Nice to see that spot being sailed.  Was it pretty flat?  Could it have done with more wind?  Did you drive out around the beach and go out from the inside of the eastern point (where your tracks look like you went ashore)?

Yes it was fairly flat Dave. Mainly went there to have a look around for a Nn run. An easy place to do a few kms. There are a few shallow spots especially when using a 38 cm fin. It will take a few more sails to get the hang of the place. Will also try it here in a SW, should have the potential to get 40 on both tacks. We drove in Anthonys road and then 7.5 kms along the beach. You can't drive back 2.5 hours either side of high tide, there is plenty of parking on the dry sand. Don't know if Perks will let it be called cookies run, you drive in Anthonys road and sail inside Perkins IslandLaughing

Dave we ended up with plenty of wind for the gear we were on it was gusting to 26 knots at the airport just a couple of k's sw of the run.

I was on last years KA 7.1 race  I could have had the 6.2 at the end of the session as it was fairly square and pinching upwind at times

The top 2 sec  was at the narrow part half way round the corner (where that little creek shows up) in the dead flat water but opposite to a slingshot. Be good to try going other way in a S Wester
