First slalom sail for ?? Longer than I can remember. Felt good to be going fast with a small sail. Shame the body is not yet in very good condition.

Hopefully regain a little condition over Xmas if the wind plays ball.

Day 2 and the NE-20+and gusty came in. Well for the first heat anyway as i bailed out on the remaining two. To long off the water using slalom gear and also very protective of self and gear.... in so much as leaving the fin cover on my brand new Select weedy for 15 minutes of the heat. i found it very tricky to compensate the wobbles and thats when the old light bulb finally flashed. It was a good weekend away and catch up with old friends again.

Wallis Lake, NSW, AU Nice day, good NE, a very nice place to sail. Good rollup.

GPS slalom, race 1 CASL70,7.7, MUF28, nicely powered but a few holes so tended to gybe early to avoid some of the windless bits. Race 2 same sail but CASL 62, 28 MUF, very nice, faster top speeds than the big board, a bit windier. Race 3 same board but 6.6 sail, windier still & very nice, was easier than lugging a big sail round; you'd have to be old & stupid to do that, say, using a 75cm board & 9m sail all day without mentioning any names Tibor. He says it's because he is so tough but really its because he was too lazy to change down.  The main difference was in the gybes, you could haul the big sail round in a straight line but a lot easier to gybe the smaller one when you starting to get tired.

Great weekend, great place, big thanks to James, Byron & Muz for organising it.

Amazing day of sailing at Wallis Lake.  Started off cool and overcast but filled in around 12 noon. Built through the afternoon to 20+ knots. Plenty of flattish water, with some butter smooth runs up on the weed beds for those with the right fins.   I stuck down in the deeper water with my pointer fin, but still had some sweet runs in 10-20cm chop.

Pretty pleased with the distance PB!  Its been a while.

Great to meet some new people and catch up with a stack of old mates.  The camping and socialising made it a top weekend away - definitely doing it again!

nice pb's Muzz, James and Bruce!!! Great sailing with you all today Cool

Byron outstanding effort. Google earth shows max distance in a Nor Easter wind direction at around a 5km run so pretty decent. I think you need to take out a good 500m though to account for the wind shadow where we launched and also not going completely to the other side.

Good work with the camera Muz, you made Ricardo look good! I would have sailed towards you to get in the picture but I assumed you were just sitting on the board admiring my style.

Bit of a glitch - can't figure out how to post data.

Oh well here's the tale..Will post a pic of the yellow tub later.

Most fun I've had sailing in years! I only intended to do the handicap series- go and do my usual session and then see how I went but I figured as I was out there anyway I may as well try for the kms/ distance freerace thingy. Hard to tell how strong it was out there so used the big board 115 /75 wide freemove and 7m OD + 38 cms fin.

Lucky I didn't go the 7.8m as I was fully powered on the 7m.

Had a ball! That board may not be fast but it eats chop/ lulls for breakfast.

After 30 mins I was stuffed...Love the weedbanks although flying through them with the 38fin had me a bit worried about hitting bottom.

Really happy with my effort - didn't drop a gybe although I whoosed it and gybed in the lulls rather than overpowered in big chop.c 27.6kts best for the big board. Heaps of yeehaas!

Much as I love the freemove it has a lot of drag and I really wanted to use my falcon( so light and accelerates well).

Came in and compromised with the 95 rocket and 6.4m Naish Bullit so I could get out through the wind shadow but frustrated at its lack of speed compared to the falcon.( 28. 2 kts with the rocket)

The wind had kicked in a gear so I was still maxed out at times with the 6.4m- gusting to 23-25kts. Weird actually , you get small chop then flat then bump & jump stuff ( almost tried chop hops but didnt want to drop the cammed sail.Embarassed)

Those weedbanks are amazing!  So large. I wasn't going to do the next 30 min session and had a few rests and farted around but then thought well theres only 8 mins left so maybe I should have a bit of a go?

This time I decided to reach in downwind of the launch to stay out in decent wind and get a good run. Surprisingly the nm is on the rocket Surprised The falcon felt heaps faster..? Long walk upwind to the launch . Every dark spot I could see on the sand bar bottom was either a stingray buried ready to get me or a crab..Wink

Absolutely stuffed by now.. scoffed  some choccie then decided to take the falcon out. I'd noticed the wind was great down where I had come in before and figured if I could start down there I could get out into the proper wind more easily and maybe not fall in and need rescuing..another long 500m walk downwind but it paid off with a great tack straight up to the weedbank.

If I go there again I'll launch down the other end of the carpark in clear wind to use the smaller gear.

I was the last one out and my eyeballs were hanging out so I only did 2 small runs.

I knew the falcon would be faster than the others . Only got another knot but happy with 29kts+.Love that board so much fun! ( after a 89ltre falcon c 1989 if anyone has one)..Missed Andrew's too slow.

By now the weedbanks were getting too shallow with the 30cms weedie so I got the 29kts in the chop down the side. Something moved when I was standing in the weed.. don't like to wonder what it was..Surprised

Fantastic run powered up back across in the chop yodelling and yeehaaing. Mm the long walk back. head down and one foot in fornt of the other.. mm the little yellow rescue tub is coming my way... yay! I'm not to proud.. Byron came in and we unrigged and put my gear in ..

Now for the adventure of the day.. slow shallow trip back and waves over the front meant the tub was filling fast!SurprisedIt didn't help that we were both forward trying to make it easier to get through the shallows.. Now where is the mandatory bailer?  Mmm.. Ended up both of us  bailing with our hands- it was filling faster than we could empty it. The last straw was when Byron eased off the motor as we got near the end - the nose came down and a big wall of water came over the front. There was now 2 1/2 ' of water in the tub and the fuel container was floating around ..

We jumped out and dragged it in.. Hope it survived ok?

Thats my third best distance.. If I'd checked my trip meter I would have done an extra few runs to get a pb..Undecided Still I may have ended up needing a real rescue..zzzzzzzzz yeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

Top day! Finished off with pizza overlooking Forster beach and then fun company at camp.

Thanks for organising the weekend guys! Great venue and company- only wish I could do this more often.

Love the tale of the fin cover Mick.Don't know how you held that 9m Tibor. Byron if you walk down to the wind line on the sandbar and launch you'd get a full run all the way across without any wind shadow and you could use smaller faster kit.
