Peter (48505km): Kalmus, Cape Cod. We did not get the low 20s that the forecast had promised, or the high 20s that spots closer to Boston got, but we got enough to get going on 6.0/110 for a 90 minute session. A tad chilly with air at 8C and water a couple of degrees colder, but that's because I got too spoiled in Texas. Except for the temperature, the water was lovely today - clear and colorful, flat at first and nice swell later as the tide came in. Great session to get back into shape after a 3-week break.
Roo (15866km): Waterfront Park, Hood River, Da Gorge Loft Blade 5.6 Naish SP 80, Vector Alpha 26 Wind W-SW 15-35 Chop big to nasty and devious! I know how Bill Murray feels now, this day keeps repeating itself but a few variables today. Hit the water and first two runs were 36 knots on the dial so figured I was on for a nice 35 knot 5 x 10 sec session. Bang, harness line lets go so back to the beach to change booms. The replacement is stiffer and I couldn't get back up to speed, stuck in the 34 knot max range. Huey was getting a bit goofy with gusty unsteady wind but then his naughty little girlfriend Suey (as in CHOP Suey) decided to slap me around a give me a good spanking. Spat me off in a nice juicy gust just for fun, saucy little bitch! When I came up the only thing bruised was my ego, haven't had a good crash in a few years so I probably deserved it. Still struggling to get a decent run as the wind gets really gusty and the chop cops an attitude when I hook a good one in the middle of the river. 37.08 knots on the dial, fastest I've ever gone in the middle of the river with no sandbar to hide behind. 2 secs was 36.564 but I'll take it anyway. Looking forward to a few days off.
Barton (5511km): Bonaire Lac Bay. NP EVO5 7.8, iSonic 107, Drake Carbon 38. Wind: 11 kts After two days of not sailing I decided 'heck with the forecast' and went to the bay anyway. Wind was very light but rigged the biggest I had and with enough pumping was able to surprise myself with a couple of sucker runs across the bay. Not the greatest day but didn't want to see another day of Roo's great runs not backed up. As it turns out, Peter solved that issue . Roo, thanks for posting your tracks, always curious how/where the experts sail. As a contrast to the picture Roo posted yesterday, here is what Lac Bay looked like today...
