Boombas with Cap’n Calm.  A cold morning and a decent breeze do not make for a comfortable and warm session. But they do provide a fabo blast across the light chop at Boombas.

The Cap’n informed me we had an average of low twenties  breeze so I thought it was time to give the KaRace5.5 a try for the first time. I was pretty sure I was on the money when the Cap’n told me to go for a 6.0. Initially I was over powered and that coupled with trying to wrestle the Windtech was rapidly leading to frustration and exhaustion. More downhaul, whack on the Vintage Missy Screamer and a Delta 22 and a brand new world of controlled fun times arrived. I did have a MUF speed weed on initially, but lost my nerve after a couple of close calls with weedbergs at speed. The old girl has more curves than any of my other boards, but she gives up in speed, she returns in control. It was a joy to ride and I renewed my faith in using the old board in less than perfect water.

I spent the session fiddling with settings on the sail and eventually I was pretty sure I have now got that sail dialled in. In the meantime the Cap’n was handing out free lessons on speed to anyone watching. Which was no one. Boombas is a big place when there are only two of you.

Unfortunately my sailing fitness was pathetic and after being dealt to by the Cap’n who was buzzing past me like a blowfly with a dose of Mortein, I decided to surrender to and head back to camp.

Hot coffee and lunch, defrost fingers and the then the wind dropped. For the first time ever we got the timing right! A Top Ten no walking Fangy Day :-)

Arrived at Boombas, to 19average and 27 gusts, didn't look super flat, so I stuch the 24cm 42d weedy in the 48cm board and rigged the 5.4koncept. Fangy decided to go with his 5.5 KA race, this had me worried about being a tad overpowered. Sure enough when I hit the water I had a bit more than I was comfortable with, would have been fine in the smoooth but I was doing my share of tailwalking in the chop. The 24cm fin worked fine though completely confident with it until I started hitting weed burgs out wide. Went over the front a couple of times fortunately going uphil slowly. Came in and plugged the 19cm 50d fin in and changed down to the 5.0. Not so much adrenalin but a bit faster because of more control. Didn't feel anymore weedburgs but spun out in the chop instead. Not a good combination, burgs and chop!

The NM run was a bit short, had to pull out because of a flock of swans, should have had another go!

What a great windy day!  pity I have been sick so unable to make the best of it, but the fear of regret of missing the 'best day ever' did get me on the water briefly.  I even took the F2 missile out for a run, but it was a bit rough and the 6.0 not pulliing enough in the lulls, besides my complete inability to sail today while running a fever.  Switched to the Manta 86, which was proably a bit easier, but I still struggled and today must have been one of my lowest distances recored.

At lease I won't regret not trying.

Sorry Paul, no regrets here

After listening to the wind rattling my Patio and blowing things over all, Guess what the wind did when I sent my first text contemplating going for a sail after work.

Just as well my friend has now been in residence for just over 2 weeks now, wish these f'ken drugs would start working.

Nice going out there today guys all respect to you when you check out the apparent temps we had today

Wow Elmo, I thought it was cold, and now, having seen the apparent temps, I don't feel like such a blouse for getting cold fingers!

Well sailed those that got out today, very even numbers as far as peak speeds are concerned. Into the top 10 for both the hr & NM as well.

Frustrating day at work for me as the harbour looked good down here. Think you could have done alright if launching from where the kites do in an Easterly & run up towards where you start the NM in an Easterly. Oh well thems the breaks.
