Not sure how to post this? 2 sessions - 1 really short crappy one but got the 2 sec and a decent one at Marmong- all bar 2 sec are from Marmong.
It's Steve's fault ( hope you're ok)..
Forecast was for 10-15kts and it came in early so I headed down early aiming to go for distance on the big kit.. yeah right.. Got there and 15-23kts odd..I was going to put the 68ltre waveboard in but the van was packed so I didn't
Rigged the 6m OD with the 79ltre Falcon .. Steve L went out with the 6m on his RS2 and he weighs more than me.. he had a masive hooked in round the front stack coming back overpowered.. Took a while to get back in with a few more stacks.. His first words were " I can't feel my legs.." ..( do you want an ambulance? No..) and he went and recovered in the shade..
By now I was really psyched out ..
Rerrigged the 5m OD on the falcon and went out expecting a pleasant comfy powered sail.. Almost sank in the lulls..managed to make it into the caravan park shallows without sinking and falling in. I fixed the harness lines and let the sail off a bit..Back along the sand islands and the wind really kicked in and with wind v tide there was 2 ' standing chop..Brown pants trip back..
I find the falcon unpleasant in 10 " chop so the 3-4' rolling waves and confused chop off the pt was horrendous. I was still pyched out so I didn't even pull the sail on, just stayed in the straps and harness and left it not on properly...After several attemps I made it above the point and decided to risk shark bait and just drift in and walk it back. I did do one short run in a lull. Once I was near the point the rig got pulled out of my hands. I'm unfit and a lousy swimmer and knew I wouldn't catch it so I just looked after myself ans swam in to land assuming the board & rig would blow ashore on the point and I'd just walk it down..
Grr it took off at a tangent getting further and further out..at least the rig acted as a bit of a sea anchor.
Once I got back to the launch Les swam out and Scott paddled his board out and they brought it in ( about 3-400m out by now in 20-25kt choppy conditions ). Great job guys thanks!
If I'd had my wavegear I may have gone out again but not slalom. Headed to Marmong.
Patchy 12-18kts so out with the 115Xcross - 7m NCX - 38 makani. Not bad.. kicked in so got the RS2 out and 33 makani.
Good fun! Loved the long runs. I was hoping for a decent nm but it b picked one with a b gybe in it as usual Chop was so smooth compared to Coal
One powered up run I could feel the plate and screws in my ankle straining which was worrying so I didn't stay out a lot longer..
Disappointed in the stats..obviously didn't bear off enough at Marmong. I really thought I'd at least get 28kts..
Should have gone to Budgy. .although Marmong was nice..
