Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU

finally some wind

tide was a bit high to provide any really flat water but was lots of fun

with some good bullets coming through

started out on the recently aquired old windtech slalom with a 32 techtonics pointer

and a 6.2 severne R3.

did a mid thirty on that then changed to a iso 86 with a 25 vector weed speed and went a bit faster on that.

Liptons

Out of control and out of my skill set. . Had my first ever tail walks and monster spin out. I think I had pretty much everything wrong.

Still good fun and no damage done. The data are approximations from what I remember of the figures on the GW 60. I left the GT 31 on for the ride home I am looking forward to seeing posts from our more competent sailors.

A day of lost opportunities, I know it sounds ridiclous being disappointed with 40kts, but it was a PB day for me strongest seabreeze of the summer and we only get 1 or 2 per year like this, flattish water, so why didn'y I go faster, coz I rigged too big 6.3m instead of my 5.5m which I bought for days like todayYell, I reeeli feel like a slow leaner todayEmbarassed.  I said to Mike I should go in and change to my 5.5m, but did I "NO"Surprised.  instead I sailed to Point grey, got 40kts on my first run there and i thought this is it, I'm gonna smash it tdayEmbarassed.  Problem was wind just got stronger, and I was fighting the sail the whole time and just couldn't go any faster.  Will this fat bastard ever learn, and will I get a chance to redeem myself this summer?

That 40kt run did feel super fast and a glorious adrenalin rushCool

Mistral 95, TR9 6.3m, Pepeweed 22cm, proabably shoulda used the 21cm (now 20cm) today?

Fangy’s for a late arvo very quick dip. Unfortunately, I missed the sweet spot when the tide was lower and the wind decent. Snotgobbler taxi duties meant I couldn't get down until 'Ken late. By then the tide was very high and the wind blowing the BBQ plates down the street.

I took Vivien, the old Missy Screamer, out for a spin in the chop. Koncept 5.8 flying and FangyMkII 20 in the slot.

Good bits: self preservation gene eventually kicked in. But before that on my second last run down, I was channeling Donald Campbell. That is the fastest I have got in chop. It was as scary as Trump.  And at the end of it, the self preservation gene sent an urgent telegram to brain requesting a ban on all further supersonic  water travel. Surprisingly, brain took a little bit of notice and I spent the rest of a very short session just mucking about and washing the brown from my boardies.

I am so completely stoked with the Fangy MkII 20 fin. It never spun out in the chop, jumping, beating uphill or screaming over the back of chop going downhill. I am really looking forward to Pepe trying it out and seeing what his experiences are like, good and bad. I fear I have been in Delta land way too long and have forgotten what a fin is supposed to feel like. So hopefully Pepe can give me some feedback that is devoid of the emotional bias I am probably imparting.

Bad bits: fractured a cam, it was bumpier than a brothel and session was too short, but no way is that enough to be a dampener . Top Ten Fangy Day

Hardz can complain, get down there late because of the work thang rush to rig up went to rig the 6.4m poked the mast down the luff tube around half way in a gust of wind hits ths sail and it starts flapping like a mad basket. unbeknownst to you favorite muppet the mast has penetrated the panel inside the liuff tube, a bit of brute force and ignorance and the mast is inserted. Pull on some down haul and it;'s awefully hard so I stop and check things (obiously not enough by what happens next) not finding anything wrong a bit more brute force then "bang" fark a mast, Fark not a mast, closer inspection finds I've shredded the panel inside the luftube with the mast including the two tension strips.

Went back to the trailer contemplating the 7m in a moment of muppet madness thankfully it was only a moment so went exploring for my 5.8, it's been a long time since this little beastie has seen the light of day.

The word was Pt Grey, the channel was "interesting", Clench, push the back of the sail out and try to stay upright eventualy got to the run sith a 39 on the first pass.

Seemed to be stuck around that area til a nice double gust got me with the first 40 of the day, a couple of runs later another on the dial, twas very nice over on the point but eventually everyone headed back over to the other side I did a couple more runs but was having trouble getting going so decided to brave the Channel again, it was still "interesting" but made it without making an Elmo sized dent.

Went straight into a liptons run found there was a lot more chop on the run, talky tells me 38, fin tells me "fark that" so I'm going over chop sideways with talky slowly counting down from 38, somehow or another I didn't eat shit which was pretty amazing as the bowels were lightening the load.

Next run, exactly the same, Time to change the fin to something a bit bigger.

The larger fin definately made a difference, got a couple of nice runs with the best being a 39.

Great evening on the water, could have done without the muppetism destruction.

A bit gusty today

Decrepit (54652km):
2844 days ago

Just wasn't sure what to rig today, the 43cm board was a no brainer, but sail a toss up between 5.0 and 5.4, depending on how much you believed the wind would pick up, and fin was anybody's guess, so I got my fin pouch out and used the old blind fold and pin trick. No not really, but it was close to it, came down to the grunty 50deg 17cm or the higher aspect ratio 48deg 20cm. Not a lot of difference in area, but as tide was high and so was the chop, the longer narrower fin seemed like a better choice. Stroppo told me the other day, I should get out of my comfort zone and rig bigger, so I went with the 5.4 koncept. In hindsight this was probably the right choice, although crossing the boat channel was very challenging, even though I shifted the mast track back and flatened the sail out before the event. Got my best 2s at liptons where I managed to line up with one very nice gust, but the best I could do there after that was 35s. So follopwed Hardie over to Pt Grey, where the wind was much less gusty and the runs were longer, got my 5 best 10s there. Didn't even try a gybe let alone an alpha, probably could have gone for one at Pt Grey, but my mind was on 5xs.

Had one big tailwalk and crash, trying to bear off too early, in a great gust, a bit before I reached the flatter water.

So here's what GPSResults makes of the watch data.

2s 38.066, 5x10 36.042, 1hr 10.210, @ 10.357 (No gybe, turn up wind, step off get back on. the GW52 doesn't have this because min speed is 2knots, watch is 0). NM 22.201, dist 29.18, 100m 37.241, 250m 36.573, 500m 33.849

Watch display.

2s 38.05, 5x10 36.04 @ 0.00 100m 37.24, 250 36.57, 500 33.84

Peel Inlet, WA, AU

Watched the forecast then building wind all day at work.  Was stoked when Ru said she would get the boys and I should take the chance have a quick sail.  Had a fantastic time nice and windy. Was great to get the speeds I did today and to see the stoke on Stropp's face after a good gust.

Happy to have a 40knot 10sec, now just got to get 5 of them in one day, and the peak on the watch wasa bit over 42.

Nice one Hardie. Beat me again! My problem was more like too much regard for my own safety. Embarassed I know you dont have that issue, what with 40 knots on a 6.3 and al! Cool

Congrats to all the 40 knotters but especially to your pb 'ken!! Great stuff!  I couldn't help thinking that the postings evidence suggests that  "more kgs = 40+ kts" for all 3 of you. Awesome.  Skipper, you need shedloads of Dot's Supercake but still 3rd best 2 sec for you....super stuff. Fangy, glad Metallica came through and I assume full sale production will ramp up soon. Basil, wish I coulda been there with you to keep you company... we'eda shown 'em!
