2772 days ago 1 categories It wasn't until about 11:30pm on Friday night that we decided two windy days was good enough excuse for an over night stay in Augusta. So I packed only my high wind board and 3 sails that I could rig on the 430cm mast. Thanks to the guys at Windforce for selling me the 7M Reflex at a great price to replace my NP 7M which had a major blow out which is yet to be repaird. We were a little late hitting the road and meandered through Margaret river to pick up some nougat liquer and Cheeky Monkey IPA, then when we arrived in Augusta to find our check in wasn't ready so it wasn't until about four that we found the windsurfing spot.
Fortunately a few kitesurfers were able to give me some advice but needless to say I was going by feel to find some of the shallow spots. Rigged the biggest sail I had with me 7.0M which I was never overpowered on and the iSonic 86L got the job done but with the air accross the sand bar being so turbulent I would have been much better off with a bigger board to carry some speed betwen the short gusts. The wind swung around to the east a bit and picked up a few knots as the sun was getting lower in the sky and I was having a great time having a couple of kilometers of flat water sharing it with a few pelicans hovering above.
This alone made it worth the road trip and there was still another day left with stronger wind forcast.
