ratz (10868km): Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU a very quick blast before meeting the tribe for breakfast. the local not at its best but ok. used a 112 mistral with a 33 tribal weedy and a 7.0 severne R8. nice to catch up with simon.
Rayman (2237km): Coodanup, WA, AU mikes 48 with 4.2 and 22 45 delta. the nice day didn't expect to beat my PB but did nearly at thirty just a few more knots. Jake
SluGger (13777km): Glory Holes, Australind, WA, AU pat 100l tr16 6.3m mxr29 Quick sail with Rob, good to be local.
Jonski (6717km): Coodanup, WA, TRXI 6.3, Missile 49, Vector weed speed @50
Early start this morning as I thought the wind might drop off. Rigged the 6.3 on an RDM and had been worried it would struggle to rotate but turns out it goes just fine. Lots of big gusts but only a short section of flat water so I was getting a lot closer to the bank than I would of liked. Really fun day but by the time the wind went south enough for Nautis I was to tired to give it my best effort.
Hardie (35820km): Liptons with YoYo lots of weedbergs, which I'm going to have to clear, as run was dangerous. WEnt conservative. Mistral Speed 95 TRXI 5.9m Pepeweed 20/48, enjoyed it, big change to sailing at Dampier
Firiebob (17904km): Dawesville WA Snug as a bug in bed on a beautiful stormy rainy day. Sleepmaker bed, child bride and no protection
(Puf-) fin (15562km):
Coodanup, PEEL, WA AU. It turned out to be a good day for a sail in the end. I was a late arival at fangies,... just couldnt get started in the mornin. The wind was houling at me to get moving and things did improve, so of I went. Waited for the rain to stop, ah, well.?? The wind was still blowing, so riged the Avi 5.4 onto the 48 board with the 55/21cm weedy, and it was all go. I miss timed the NM run, by the time I got to the start line the wind was easing of a bit, and then at the end of it wind was dropping,.. oh well.? But it did put some more puff into it for a few more nice runs until I noticed the harnes line was starting to disintegrate, so that was it for me.

fangy (22667km): I was up at sparrow’s for a sail before brunch with my parents. I am not sure I have ever been on water this early and not been hungover. But desperation did things to my head to convince me that getting on water before the clock had got to double digits wasn’t completely insane. Turns out, it is actually completely insane. Made even more so by not being the first on water… I arrived a Wamba Rd only to see Jonski go flying downhill on the first of many big cojones runs.
I rigged at Wamba Road, joined initially by Frank who was still mucking around with yet another new GPS. I would love to say the technology behind his latest effort was impressive, but the truth is, it isn’t. But he seemed proud of it so I will leave him to put his stamp on the session in his own post. ( Frank is a philatelic fiend, so that was a brilliantly funny pun…just so you know.)
Other slightly mental mobbers turned up for a sail at what I still consider an ungodly hour, or as some people call it, morning. Jake, Cap’n Calm, and then a deluge of Northerners came through the fence. (Even some geographically challenged Busso boys) With the Teletubbies having carried out several specularly successful picnic rug raids on Perth waters in the last few weeks, I knew I had to be prepared. I had spent yesterday working on the Pinna Proof fence and installing the latest weapon, a Teletubby scarecrow with motion activated automatic handbag launcher. Unfortunately it appears that Lunny and Flatchat are more than comfortable with a handbag or two and so they made it through. A work still in progress.
Other works in progress include getting my brain to work that early in the day and with zero coffee on board. I got the sail size right but board and fin were way too big and in the end I couldn’t keep it on the deck with any sort of control. The wind was well mental for the short time I had, the tide a bit too high and I would love to make some more excuses for sailing like a glacier but Jonski proved that the big numbers were on offer if you had it sorted. I didn’t even get close and fortunately I snapped my harness lines so I had at least one decent excuse for a short and rather hectic session.
Full kudos to John, that was amazingly fast in the early morning conditions. Top Ten Fangy Day just seeing the full bottle of awesome sauce on display :-)

Decrepit (54652km): AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, that's better. My hands know that's the first sail I've had in ages, with aburst blister to show for it. Didn't make 50km, must be getting soft! Arrived at Wamba St to see fangy and johnski flying around. Looked idela conditions to try out Swindy's 5.0 I bought off him a while back. Also first try of my helmet conversion for 2 GPSs, and the new Mark 3 DIY 10hz machine for a run. So I had 4 devices on me today, (a look that could be repeated into the near future.) Fangy wasn't looking so I dragged out the 43cm board, toyed with the idea of plugging the swoody in, but it looked a tad choppy. so to be on the safe side went witha known quantity, the higher aspect 17cm @ 55. Followed Johnski's advice and played in the slightly smoother water close to creery. Finally worked out I could go much faster not using Johnski's port run towards the shore, but going starboard along the shore. Maybe I'm just a wimp and freak out at the shallow bank rushing towards me. After lunch wind was dropping a tad, so changed up to the new 48cm board. my lack of fitness was making the 43cm board hard work, especially in the lulls. This gave me the best alpha. Speaking of which, GPSResults doesn't give me an alpha 500 on any of the 4 files, however it does give me alpha 250s, Thinking I must have gone wide before the 500, I checked, and found the paths actualy grew closer. So I've no idea why an alpha 500 wasn't awarded. The watch said I had a 21.4, and I felt I had bettered that after I took the watch off. Realspeed doesn't do UBX files so I checked the gW52's file and that came up with the 22. So I've used realspeed and the GW52 files, but then found I didn't have a NM division, which I created, but can't get working, so I've gone with GPSResults version of the NM. When I sorted these two problems I'll post all results from 1 device.
Edit Monday, results now all from GW52, and GPSResults. The 10hz DIY module showed the best accuracy figures, but it's yet to be approved, and agreed more closely with the GW52 also on my head, than the 5hz unit on my arm. Great to finally meet our new junior, Jake, his talent is obvious, won't take him long to pick up this lark. And lots of visitors from North and South, MM was outnumbered there today.
Now I have lots of data to analyse

PJ (24612km): Boggy Lake, SA, AU N 15-22 knots-Patrik 92-Koncept 6.2m-Weedy? (x2 carp hits only! but weedy fixes this as slide through, over them:-) Really interesting Northerly on a hot 28C Sunday. Rigged big 7.8 but too big. Wind suddenly switched off when dark cloudy front drifted in.
TOBYchef (1526km): Mike here again. Toby tells me these sessions I've found in his watch are all Sandy Bay Exmouth |
