Albany, WA, AU

that was mint! NM a surprise. more later.

EDIT:

So Doddi pops in on Thurs arvo to grab his new fins, and says he's going to Lilacs because its looking good. I was just going to do a short sail in Perth. Got back to work and checked the forecast- and it was looking better for Albany than earlier in the day, so the lightbulb came on. Arranged to go down with Dale the next morning. Spontaneous missions are good. Its been a while! Got to bed about 11pm and up at 1am to drive to Dale's. I didn't really get any sleep. We got there to see 15-20kts but it was coming and going. Took a while to rig up. Meanwhile the other guys were ripping around. Strop came back in and said he was lit on his 5.8m- it didn't look that windy.

So out with the 5.5m and 41cm speed board with 16cm Tribal delta.

Was great in the gusts. Nice place to sail. Plenty of flat water. Good company. Wind was gusting to high 20s in the bullets. Gusts were pretty short. Best wind was when we were having a lunch break! doh. Sailing back out it was a few knots stronger than before so decided to try a NM. Took a while to get up there, and by the time I got going the wind had backed off again. Aborted the first try and sailed back up. Wind was back to mid 20s, so had another crack. Underpowered mostly but towards the end I found a couple of bullets to bump up the av. Peak was ~43 on that run I think. Expected the NM to be mid 30s due to the lighter wind mid run, so was pleasantly surprised when the data dropped. Sorry Stropp Wink

A bit steadier wind and stronger gusts would have made the speeds a lot higher- especially the NMs.

Rain band was coming through at the end and the wind looked like it was picking up again so went back out with Woody. Tacked up to have another crack at NM. Wind was good. Launched, sailed into a lull and sunk. Restart. Fail. Restart. Fail... wait for wind to pick up. Rain starts. Sh!t. Wind a few knots too light to get going on the small gear. Get going in the gust but the gusts were too local and not enough wind the other side to keep planing. Body drag back to the sand bank. Wait... Wait. Then start walking... Lightning. Pissing with rain. Proper walk of shame to finish the day- all the way back from the top of the NM run Yell. At least Doddi shortened the distance by driving up the bay a bit to the end of the sand bank.

Stoked to get back on my small board and sail. Its been waaaay too long. So much fun.

Thanks Albany.
