Elmo (31542km): JP Slalom 71, NP RSR E6 6.4m, SS 37, ss 41.5cm Bit to breazy for the foil today didn't want to drive all the way over to Boombas so gave Cobblers a go again, turned out to be a bit of fun. Thought I'd give the pointers a go, over the lumpy goodness. Tried the smaller fin first and though it was ok on the way out I'd drifted a bit downwind and struggled to get back. Changed to the larger and was much better clearing the junky chop and holding my ground. Had a misshap in the second part trying to get going got hit by a gust which lifted me from the board dropped me back further up on the board before depositing me in the water unfortunately my back foot was now in the way of the mast coming down and promptly got crushed between mast and board and stayed that way when I ended up in the drink. Did a couple more runs after that but foot was hurting on the return run so decided to flag it. Lot of fun.
fangy (22667km): A Boombas session in the sunshine with Stretch-Lightyear, Waricle and Scud. Well, that session was just a masterclass from Stretch on going fast. It started with the two of us having a guess at what to rig. Stretch went small and I went big and down hauled the 7.8 beyond reason. Stretch went fast and I got slammed in every way. Not the least by a weed burg that delivered a broken harness line and munted sunglasses as well as carcass that now is pretty much aching from the top down. Annoyingly, it would have been easy to avoid the burg if I had been keeping a proper look out. Instead, I was too busy scoping out the Scud on his new-to-him, WT72. He had a FF22 in the slot, which I thought was a big ask for the big board, but he seemed to be doing just fine. So, when I ploughed into the burg it caught me completely off guard and I feel I made a fine job of denting the estuary as a result. The overdone downhaul meant the sail was manageable for most of the session, but it was super twitchy with limited range and I could never get comfy or properly powered. It almost felt like a waste of a session, but I will put that one down to experience and hopefully remember to rig better next time. Anyhow, by the time I got back to base I was epically over cooked, but of course as soon as I derigged to whack up something smaller, the breeze dropped. That coupled with replacing the harness lines, the clouds rolling in and still being a bit rattled from my catapult, meant I ended up just chucking the gear in the trailer and living to fight another day. Despite all that, seeing Stretch give the FF21Speed its maiden session, a solid work out in varying water conditions and then delivering some eye-watering results given what was on offer, equals a Top Ten Fangy Day and a big sigh of relief that all the development didn’t result in an anchor!

Swindy (10125km): Dawesville, Foil gear Nice day in the sun on the foil, Good to catch up with Alby before he went to cobblers and when he returned with a sore paw. 3 Wingdingers out with me today, Stroppo, Mike and Sean. They are all really killing it with the wings. Thought I had better try for some distance to back up stretch as I knew the Pilchard brothers even at Boombas would probably let him down badly. Well at least one of them anyway. Top winter day, great to get out.

waricle (18975km): Point Grey, WA, AU CA66 KONCEPT 6.2 NEW SPEED 21 FANGY Great day, wind increased to the 6.2 being maxed out at times an so I came in for big lunch and after changed down to 5.4 and had one go on the speed95 and decided there wasn't enough wind or smooth water so changed back to the ca, had a few more runs and the wind died so a half hour dredge back to shore where the wind incresed five knots for every sail de rigged. when we left it was howling. AS expected. really happy with the performance of the 21 speed fangy. In the right hands- Stretch for instance, very quick. i found it slippery through the water and did'nt spin out in the chop- there was some good chop in places and also behaved predictivly with no nasty surprises. Another Ross Pritchard Fangy success story. Although there were only four of us sailing The Scud, Fangy, Stretch and I it was was a most enjoyable sail with a fine buch of fellows.
Stretch (31360km): Point Grey, WA, AU. FF89/SCR6.3/FF21Sp 1st post with motion logger @ Boombas. Easy peasy to post with iPhone. Great fun session with the Pilchard brothers and Waricle. Wind had a few holes in it, but still well worth the effort. First run with Fangy's new 21 speed version. I've found my Falcon 89 doesn't like Deltas,so today was going to be a good test. On to the plane and the fin immediately felt good, and importantly, slippery! Across the chop it was very well behaved, I would have been having constant traction problems with a delta. There was a bit of flat in the middle of the right tit, but the bearaways would inevitably run out into the chop resulting in a bouncy ride. First run I held my breath as I hit the bumps, but nothing happened - rock solid! I reckon the would be a great fin for doing hours at Lilacs Albany. My best hour was there with a delta but it was pretty frustrating because I was constantly partially spinning out in the middle of the bay. This will be a non issue with the FF21Sp. Great job Ross |
