Coal Point, NSW, AU. 5.5 Ezzy, Naish Foil. Not sure if it was the sail or the far from good conditions but was just an okay session. Massive boat chop everywhere and every direction. Heaps and heaps of different weeds, dodgy wind. Bummer for the slalom sailers but looked like they still had fun.

GPS slalom round 2 NSW S2 venom 8.4, falcon 115, select v max 33

Fantastic day i wish more would join in and experience the diversity of sailing in some of the most amazing locations.

First we started with 30 min distance in light and weedy conditions hard work.

We then did a second 30 min with 5 x 10, naughtical, alpha  heaps better if you went to the sand island there was no weed and more wind.

Then we did 5 slalom races at the sand island waiting on a sand bank knee high water midle of the lake bloody unreal and quite sureal at the same time and close racing thruout the fleet and many position changes.

Great day with 9 results you never stop learning I know I learnt I need a bigger board then 115 just need to find the money. I loved the slalom racing realy close everyone pushing each other you realy do use way more energy racing thats for sure.

136 falcon, 46Z, 9.0 WARP = perfect combo

Heat 2 Slalom/GPS Series

1. We chose the right day

2. We got some great wind

3. Had a great turn up

4. Had some great sailing

Bit of weed early on with the lighter breeze out of the east which left a few sailors in the room of mirors.

2 sessions of GPS including total distance (30m minutes) and session 2 resulting in 3 categories being alpha, nm and 5 x 10

When then went into 4 x figure of 8 7slalom races up at the flats in 14 - 18knts of wind.

Great day had by all ( I think) massive thanks to Glen Wright for doing the rescue boat/start boat, the day wouldnt have been the sucess it was without you.

10 - 13kts E then 10-15kts then 15-18kts at Sand island GPS day at Coal Point, NSW, AU

7.5m GT Turbo- WT64- 35cm Tectonic weed demon

The first time I've really competed.. I can only get better..Laughing

1 x 30min GPS

 1 x 30min - 5x 10 / nm / alpha

1 x slalom figure 8 course ( the others did quite a few..) at the Sand Islands where the wind was quite strong ( for the big kit)

The first 30 min segment was patchy and the weed was the worst I've seen for ages..Surprised ( actually since the last GPS day at Coal..Undecided ) I reckon the non locals come and put it there..Wink

I did longer runs than usual and struck horrendous boatwake in the narrow gap between Wangi & Swansea.. About 4 jetskis went past plus several tinnies and cruisers all coming back from down the lake.. it was just 90-1.2m moguls popping up everywhere..Undecided I was so glad I was on the WT although I should have had more tail flex as even it was bashing..I couldn't put the power on as it was too messed up..It was generally lumpy but not as bad as down there..

My speed won't be much good as I spent most of the time subplaning and trying to get up higher into more wind..top speed about 15kts?

Next segment we had 1/2hr to go out and get an alpha - 5 x 10 and nm..

I'm not very tactical and just worked up above the point.. I thought I'd go for my normal nm back down past the point but the wind was too patchy. It wasn't bad over near Swansea so I did a bit of a reach over there..I didn't really try for an alpha and I think I only got c 10kts alpha..That segment was more fun as I was in more wind and you got out of the weed when you went higher up..

I was pretty buggered by now but decided to give the figure 8 slalom a go..I slogged up to the start and did a test run , got all my gybes and managed to stay high enough and felt pretty chuffed.. Then I  went and waited on the sandbar with everyone.

The tide was pulling the sail and me along so that wasn't much fun. I ended up having to keep the sail up out of the water..

I've never done anything like the figure 8  before and didn't have a clue..Laughing

I got sick of trying to hang onto the gear in the shallows and started sailing at the 2 min mark thinking I'd be ok to get across at the start..Huh! Undecided By now I was pretty maxed out with the big kit and the fin was too big.. I kept expecting it to rail me but it didn't.. the board got a bit lively though..Anyway... I started sailing and tried to just sit there and go upwind a bit but I was too overpowered and ran out of space so the only choice was to head straight off the wind at full power..Laughing Lucky it was flat.. got my 2 sec there.. I knew I'd be too early but kai sera..Laughing Oh well I'm disqualified so who cares how well I go , no pressure..Laughing

Went ok on the first leg but the good guys caught me and overtook.. There was carnage at the first mark and I fell in..It took forever to get started as the current was dragging the sail under..Undecided I decided to complete the course anyway and managed to get around the rest and make my gybes..

I decided I was tired and too powered / finned up and couldn't face trying to hold the gear in the current while waiting so I'd call it a day.I was also a bit worried about getting back across with the big fin.. It was ok though..

So.. I've done all the wrong things.. I can only get better..Laughing

I'm actually quite proud of myself for having a go and not worrying about coming last..Cool Although my results will be crap I felt I sailed well.

I'm glad I was on the WT. I put 75% tailflex on at the end to aid comfort and control.. It slows it down a little but that didn't worry me as handling was more important..

Thanks for putting the day on. I like the less formal segments.. it's less intimidating for people like me who haven't got a clue..Laughing

It was nice to socialise and sail with some other fin boards for a change..We could all whinge about the weed..Wink

Good effort Sue, it's only by putting yourself in those conditions one learns how far you can really push your gear and also get to know your gear.

The rush of the start is the best part, you'll lean to love it when you nail one. Great racing across the entire fleet, it's not all about who comes 1st but how you go against your nearest rival.

Great to see all the Lake mac crew again today and share your local spot for some fun windsurfing. Sue you did an awesome job lining up for that slalom race, once you know the start routine it gets a bit easier, giving it a go is so rewarding

I clearly need either a 135L board and 44fin OR a smaller 600cm^2 front foil that has less drag and more speed!

Thanks Dezza. I  learnt not to come into the start from dead upwind..at least if you're on a reach you can slow down if necessary ..Laughing

Also pay attention to how much wind where we are going to sail..at least a smaller fin and more downhaul would have helped..I  usually put max downhaul on from the start but didn't yesterday..

I'm still buzzing from the little bit I did..😜
