sboardcrazy (24291km): 3- 30kts NW Teralba, NSW, AU 5m gator- Windtech57 ( 90ltres) - 24cm WT Stealth weedy A few forecasts had it gusting to 30kts then 40kts after lunch so I went early as I didn't want to be out in the middle in 40kts. I rigged too small but anything would have been right for a couple of seconds today.. I thought I'd have just the right combo for today.. yeah right.. It was good for 2 strong patches and I managed to get 2 bearaways. One really strong bit was still brown pants and I wasn't fully powering on the sail or board to survive.. Generally I couldn't get going and couldn't gybe.. If I gybed in a lull ( read 0-3kts) I'd fall in as the gear was too small. If I waited for a gust the wind would often fall out completely halfway around and I'd fall in.. It was hard to get a gust to waterstart and hard to uphaul.. I usually rig the same or bigger than Gert who had a 5.7m and seemed to be having a better time of it. Still a 5.7 would have been survival in the gusts and I wouldn't have been game to bearaway. I started out without a hood but lying around with a wethead in the icey water trying to start soon had me rugging up. About midday some storms to the north killed the wind ( still some but 5-15kts). I could have waited and tried for after but the fun to pain ratio wasn't high enough. So much for 40kts at 1pm..Everyone arrived at lunchtime just in time for it to die. Maybe it improved after the storms went? Just Gert and I . Later Byron and a winger with a few others sniffing around. Oh for some nice shallow water to sit out the lulls and gusts.. Pretty happy with the 2 secs for the crappy conditions..

Bruce Healey (24088km): Budgewoi Lake, NSW, AU Bit more water in the lake, warmer than recent days, NW not too crappy, I guess this is as good as winter gets. CASL82, 5.9, 19fin. Mike Matt and Bill out as well as a bloke whose name I forget. Saw the clouds & lightning so came in just in time to unrig before the rain & wind went to about 40 knots for 20 mins or so.
Byron Mcilveen (63506km): Teralba, NSW, AU S2 venom 7, falcon 115, select v max hurt my shoulder when a gust came from behind me I was not even planing but hooked into harness and i went in on top of my sail put arm out on mast to stop going thru sail felt pain straight away. it was nothing and soft but feels very sore so not good must be geting old. shit day there is a reason I sail shingles and bottom of lake way better.
Bostonfoil (17127km): Valentine, NSW, AU JPHF 135 F4 Slalom large Phantom X 7.0 - NW 20-40kts - Batshit crazy westerly up and down to 30kts intiially. 5.8 unavailable due to getting a repair, so hung on to the new X 7.0 as best I could. Just trying to squeeze a few runs out in between the gusts. No major "offs" due to my new "gust selection policy"TM and fear of wrecking my "flash new kit"! Plenty of storm cells kicking about all day which reached a crescendo when a big one rolled into Croudace Bay and pushed the wind to over 40kts. Enough! |
