Barely enough wind to sail so rigged my biggest sail (7.7m KA Koncept) and biggest board (Naish Icon 130L with Choco 33cm weedie). Faffed around on the beach for a bit then the wind picked up a tad so went out for a sail. All going well as I got right out the back to the far sand bar, reaching back across towards Invy and BANG - I hit a submerged tree branch and snapped off my fin at the base. Hooked the spreader bar of my harness through the back footstrap and let the harness drag behind and zig-zagged my way back to shore. The only powerbox fin I had left was a Black Project 20cm delta. I was unsure if this would hold with the 7.7m sail but it did - most of the time. It was an exercise of hanging in the harness a lot and keeping my feet very light. But in gusts it tended to spin out a bit. Luckily a quick twist of the feet would usually get it back on course.
I'm loving the power of the 7.7m 2021 KA Koncept. Once the board picked up enough speed and started to plane, I could really feel the sail power up with the apparent wind - quite abruptly like a phase change.
The wind was a bit up and down and swinging around all afternoon as the tide rushed in. A fun sail with Josh and Kato later joined by Mick and Old Salty and a few dingalings and a lone kiter.
