Finally a bit of proper wind, unfortunately I struggled to be in the right place at the right time.
Spent most of my time over on Pt Grey, was some nice flats over there but struggled to connect the gusts, only realy did it one one run.
Bit of an eventfull sail, going into one run on the Pt sailed over a large ray swimming on the surface, scared it and got hit in the leg by it's wing, (left a brown trail with that).
Over the other side went into a gybe at Liptons and rehooked, managed to unhook just before going over only to have my leg fall accross the front of the board and then have the mast chop down onto my leg, again a bit more brown expecting to hear sounds I didn't want to, fun trying to get leg out with wind pushing sail down. After that I decided Huey was trying to tell me something so I flagged the session.
Happy with the sail, not as happy as some who managed to connect the dots today.
Good fun.

Last time out my big off all but broke the webbing on my harness line. It broke as soon as I launched today. My spare was a miserable 60 cm. and i have used 76 cm for the last few years. Felt terrible and I never relly got going

There was some wind for a change,,, maybe a little bit much, had some trouble with the old Avi5.3 sail as I'd left
the other boom at home,,, so wasted some time getting it sorted on the one I had.
There was no smooth, it was a bone shaking experiance in some areas but am surprised at the alpha , it was rough
but maybe not so with the alpha ???
The excitment and wind made it a fun summers day out. Should have been better prepared .

What an epic day. It took me until the last run to get a PB.
The GW60 reckons 41.04, but the Motion wasn't so generous this time. I'll see what KA72 says when I get home.
[EDIT: I'm taking the GW60 upgrade!]

An epic day, don't see many days like this, sailed my new sail and once I got it dialed in it was sweet as. Great to see lots of fellow sailors out getting some top speeds and some PB's, enjoyed sharing the Joy when Slug got his PB, finially found the right hole. How good was it, Mr 40 HardAs gets a top 5 2sec, Rob smashing his way into the 40's, Guy's PB's, Mad Mike the fastest 77yo on the planet and the Queen of Pinnaroo giving it a good go with the boys, doesn't get much better than that.

1048 days ago First great seabreeze of the season!!!! Yippee that was fun.
rigged the 5.2 and sutuffed in the 43cm board with 18cm@40/60. had a lot of trouble getting this going, as it was really tiring me, I came back for the 48 with 19cm@47d. Also gave the 5.2 a bit more downhaul.
This was a great improvement and I started having fun. The chop in the channel intimidated me, so I stayed at Liptons. Wind was in narrow gusty bands, most of the time not aligning with any smooth. So my best speed was in small chop, not something I'm used to trimming for. Moved the mast track around a bit, but was never sure I'd found the sweet spot, the best wind was never in the same place.
Great to see the heavier amongst us grabbing some PBs. Lots of sailors out having fun, think that's what we live for.
Here's the liptons colours.

1047 days ago Edit:Point Grey the story. Yestrday was the fastest water Ive ever experienced at Point Grey, a combination of weed height and density and water height. Water height was about 62 to 64cm according to Peel Inlet Tide storm surge data, with a positive storm surge between 21 and 23cm. Today is only positive 6cm so its 6 inches lower, and will be much draggier if you're contmeplating sailing it today. Yesterday was unique. I dont blame people for not sailing over. The winds were strong, and the channel chop severe, I span out 2wice one time sailing over and one time sailing back, If I'd fallen in with the sail in an akward position might've been stuck for a long time trying to get back up. When I was over there the winds were a genuine 25/30kts, later in the day when I'd stopped the winds were gusting 30 to 35kts. I was rigged perfectly my 5.9m fully powered up, 21cm 45degree rake fin, and the nude 54 speed board (not too small). Got 40.27kts on my 3rd run, 4th run 40.19kts, then a 39.8kts, then a 39.07 then 40.56, 40.75, 40.38, 41.09, 40.83 (on this run the wind had picked up and I got lifted and spoilt the run, shoulda been my fastest of the day but I panic & killed it. Next run was was 40.11 and again got lifted in a gust, panicked again and decided to sail back and rig smaller. Rigged my 5.5m and 18cm fin, sailed over to Point Grey and either the wind had a temporary lull, or I just wasnt powered enough, had 2 x runs 35.9 and 38.1kts, and thought, nah I got nothing to prove, youve had a good day, call it. So I called it and sailed back. Then as I was derigging the gusts just kept getting stronger, which enabled others to get their PB's and some glory for the day. I decided to get my Wind gauge out and measure the gusts and was getting 32's 33's 34's and a 35kt gust. To have gone any faster I reckon I would need to put a weight jacket on, and maybe an assymetric fin. My Dr told me 18 months ago I was pre-diabetic and to lose weight, so I lost 10kgs and cannot go as fast as when I was 92 to 98kg. I'm now 83 to 85kg. I feel much fitter and healthier being 10kgs lighter, so not going back to being a fat bastard. I either use a weight jacket, or be happy for a man in his 60's that he can still windsurf, and can reach 41kts.
Sensational days speedsailing as good as it gets for me. Conditions quite challenging for many particularly at Liptons, Point Grey was on fire, best Ive seen it and sailed it
