waricle (19012km): Coodanup, WA, AU CA58 KAR 5.5 Fangy19 This year is looking good. Light to moderate breeze that really didn’t live up to the hype. Not as many people out today either but those who were looked to be enjoying the sunny conditions. A Salubrious start to the year.
Elmo (31592km): xSlug Patrik 100, NP RSR E6 6.4m, Nemsis 30cm. What a way to start a year and such a turn around from my last sail. Went to have a look at Liptons but there was cars parked on the side of the road at the roundabout so I utilised said roundabout and headed down to Novara, thought breifly (as long as it takes to think "no f'kn way") about venturing to CWWP. Novara had white water everywhere, so the 6.4m came out trailer, didn't want to risk a pointer with floating weed and crab pot ropes so the nemesis was brought out. I wasn't expecting much after being broken yesterday ceilling painting (all day) and lugging around slabs (the concrete type) today, but first run took of expecting to gybe at the chanel marker, but the wind was good so thought I'd gybe around at the platform, but the wind was good so I kept going, right into Claudesville, sweet a 8.7km leg. I'll be honest, in places it was exciting, junky waves just over waist high forced a fair bit of air time, settings need a bit of work as the back foot was cramping badly. Bit of a harness line tweek and off again, lots of lumpy goodness to be had, the 6.4m was well lit, this leg sailed into mid Cox bay. Mast foot tweek and off again, bit of a send on this one as nicely powered from the get go so thought I'd try a naughty, got my peak on this run, but hit some wierd chop an lightish patch on breeze which slowed us up a bit, but still happy. This was to be the last run over to Claudesville, as it was getting a bit junkier and the weekends labours were starting to take effect. Last run back was lively junk was definately over waist high and coming from a number of directions so picking a line was tricky but fun. Feet were cramping as was my right butt cheek (not had that before sailing). Last run was a short one to the chanel marker an back. All up a great session. Sore but satisfied.
fangy (22687km): New Years Eve: Only time for a quickish sail before heading up to town for festivities. I gambled on the wind kicking in so I went small and rigged the Avalon 6.3. By the time I was ready to get sailing the breeze hadn’t really arrived so I was forced to go with the ol’ faithful Barge once more.
On water there were a bazillion peeps out. Gone are the days of me knowing every sailor on the patch. At one stage looking back on to the flats it looked like the start of a regatta. Fab to see so many people enjoying themselves. In the time I was out I couldn’t get enough wind to power any significant bear aways so I spent my time practising my gybes on the inside and strengthening my dodgy left knee push. I knocked out some nice feeling gybes, but they were all miles too wide so the official numbers were a bit disappointing.
I have to publicly apologise to Decrepit. I royally cocked up a passing move which ended just being a complete dick of thing. I was on a broad reach coming into shore to gybe. Upwind was Waricle and his knitting group sitting having a gasbag. Downwind was Decrepit pinching hard uphill. I decided to try and thread the needle and get across in front of Decrep and still be below Waricle’s group. I didn’t get the timing right and ended up being too close to Waricle and failing to give way to Decrep and clusterfudging the whole thing. Sorry fellas. Apart from that, and my usual nemesis, the kites, consistently managing to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time, I had a beaut if undercooked splash around the paddocks.
Off to whack on the party gear now - see ya next year.
New Years Day: Well I certainly didn’t get any wiser and the wee small hours frivolity hurts more than it did the last time I was dumb enough to do something like that. Thank goodness for caffeine and aspirin. I finally managed to drag the carcass down to The Hook mid arvo. Rigged the same as yesterday. Did the same as yesterday, but without being a dick this time. Broke my harness just from feasting too much. Crashed with aplomb mid gybe by simply not remembering where the board and foot should intersect. Then came home. Now just dying quietly.

Decrepit (54711km): Was a nice cruisy day at Fangys, trouble was, my descoison to go with a bigger sail was correct, but staying with the 48 and 17 wasn't ideal. The 55 and 19 would have been a better choice to cope with the lulls Had a bit of a surprise when I was coming in, slowly wriggling it's way across the path in front of me was a tiger snake, totally unconcerend by my presence, so I just stood back a bit and waited till it had ensconed it self in the rocks, before I continued. So be aware people, careful where you put your feet.
Sammy the snail (29353km): Coodanup, WA, AU I waited till after 4 thinking it will kick in but it did not, was the last one in the water, end up been less wind than yesterday. Geeeez it is so adictive that flat staff, love it, just wish would be more wind, all the other ingredients was there, the weed and the tide. Happy days same as yesterday, rs sl5.8, Herby |
