Slowboat (50890km):
479 days ago 2 categories In a land, far far away from familiar speed mecca (Lilacs, coods, liptons) was a mystical place, full of wonder and experiences like none other. A spread of spreads appreciated by few, but befit for any king, queen or consort... A place any fully tuned rally machine dreams of going... beyond a newly surfaced freeway... Melville in all its glory
Today was one of those days. Tide was waaaaay low. Pelican feet could be clearly seen high and dry in the middle of the usual speed run where they were having a huddle. The remaining flats were completely shut down unless you had a 5cm fin or some other invention that defies traditional logic (Jim?).
The chop in the remaining deeper bits is something else. Best preorder some dental implants for this mission... Close spaced pyramid chop. Pure evil. Wind swinging all over the show making multiple chop angles, combined with the "following the shallow channels" bending it even more and making it bounce back for evil squared. But.... the bullets were BRUTAL, making for some sick sends.
G*d it was delightful. Full tribal. I got to use my 102 for the first time since it was born... (in Feb this year), and got my brand spankers 6.2 Apache race to full noise... Used a 31cm Sym speed (upright fin) for a glorious relief from raked fins, and had the best sail I've had in ages. Smoking upwind and everywhere... Brutal chop gybes... Challenging, properly lit in the bullets, and on the edge at times..... yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehar!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit:
That was my fastest seabreeze session at Melville for almost 7 years (this one)! That last session was completely different... was able to get over the flats easily with a 33 weedspeed... 20cm less water yesterday so no chance.
