264 days ago Sail no 11- The Spit Lake George, SA, AU - sailed 2 - 6pm
10-15kts then 15-19kts SSE
12/10 fun
Started out with the big gear 7.5m Turbo- RS4 ( 112ltres) - 24cm Atomic for an hr
Cripes the big gear is slow and heavy! The turbo is really slow to rotate even being pro active. I think I got the alpha with that.
I didn't want to wear myself out with the big gear so came in and rigged the 6.5m Turbo- RS2 ( 90ltre) - 22cm Atomic
The wind obliged nicely. By now it was too choppy for me to get any decent speeds ( 6"' rollers) but I had a ball trying!
Several nm runs. One really powered up but I think it probably included my slow bit across the top. I got some killer gybes for me!
I can go home now..I think I was a bit too upright and need to keep lower but
I don't usually do a gybe at the end of the bearaway but I was getting nicely planing ones.
A few new things today.I've had to push the boom away preflip before but today I had to really push it or it would have backwinded me. Must have been going faster than the windspeed.
Also first time ever I flew into the gybes , planed through and the sail was exactly where I needed it to be to grab and keep going.
I think I need to do more wider bearaway ones. No good for alphas but boy they feel good!
I'm getting more confident. A week ago I wouldn't have been game to go for it in that chop with the 22cm fin. It only let go once going upwind and I was tired and sailing like a sack of spuds.
There was one flat spot but not much wind in it.
Got to 50kms and thought I'd try for 60..then thought 75 is a nice number . Did 83 to make sure I got the 75. I could have kept going but the wind was starting to get patchy, my big toenail was very sore and I couldn't be bothered.
I think I'll pay for this after the adrenaline wears off.. Double painkillers tonight.

What a great day! I love this place.
