Lyttelton Harbour, NZ

falcon 115, 37z, 7.7 warp wind 24-28 Super rough outgoing tide.

Great fun. Way overcooked at times.  Sailed with Olivia up to ripper island then negotiated some rough water at pace on the way back. Close to blowing up multiple times.  Gear combo amazingly forgiving whilst leaping off swell going downwind.  Great fun.

Awesome to see Mike back on the water and the good wind bringing a few other sailors out of the woodwork.

Christchurch Estuary, NZ ..Great weather on the estuary, although rather choppy at first. Nevertheless made it upto and beyond the outlet on my CA82 with LOFT 5.0 and Flikka 22 fin. Water state was actually a bit more user friendly up there, and provided for me to try for the mile more or less along the chop lines towards the blue bouy by Main Road - Still pretty bumpy though.

..Needed a breather after that and took the opportunity to rig my CA78, with same sail and Flikka fin as above. ..Later in the day when the tide was getting lower and the water state flatter, I swapped in my Tribal 16 and my best speeds and Alpha turned out to be with that combination.

..Nearing sunset and still very powered up with my Loft 5.0, I also gave my Tribal 12 a quick go in the CA78 - was also getting into the 30's with that fin, but with a substantially reduced degree of control - anywhere near even little chops it was a matter of focussing on completely neutral backhand or spin out like crazy. ..It's a different model from my 16 and I didn't have much time to figure out where the centre of pressure is - but of course its also a bit on the small side

Quickest rig of the day for me was Carbon Art SL78, Loft RB 5.0, Tribal Delta Sym 16

That's a great Alpha and mile Aaron

..and sounds like Olivia is a force to be reckoned with if she made it up to Ripapa island in those conditions

Good going there Pete, great speed in the estuary.

It was pretty rough when I had my first tootle about for a month.

No sailing fitness here at the moment.

Congratulations on the PB's pete and Aaron! CoolCool

Pete, was the 12cm Tibal the Delta Weed? Thats a very small fin for the boards you used. I use the Delta Weed 12cm on my CA40 when the weed is really thick, or the water really shallow. It is solid on that board in those conditions, but not that great getting back upwaind as you would expect. Laughing

Thanks Sailquick

..And yes my Tribal 12 is the Delta as opposed to the Delta Sym. ..Although it sounds way too small for my boards and undoubtably is so in terms of normal sailing in clear water. It nevertheless proved to be viable the other night for testing our difficult weed situation here which has grown more dense than ever this season. The other thing is I'm only 65 kgs so I can get away with significantly smaller fins than most other fella's.

..Off the wind and in the thickest and most dense weed I'd ever tried to sail in before I was actually quite OK barreling along with the Delta 12 at +30 knots and whilst going over patches of weed that were visibly lying on the surface, and I managed to make five gybes in the thick of it.

Did feel pretty spooky though! ..might not be making a habit of it Laughing

..The deep spinout difficulties I mentioned above were on beam reaches and up wind angles whilst trying to get in position, also whilst crossing the river to get there and back.
