What started as a shite session, ended up being a whole lotta fun.CoolCoolCoolCoolCool

Annie (always happy Annie) and Paul (Paul, Paul happy Paul) were both out on the water when I rocked up having mucho fun out there, both looking to be nicely powered and having a right old time.

Lots of whitecaps all over (but not a huge amount of tree movement) so thought the smaller kit today.

Wrong move, the whitecaps were lying baskets, and I'm too much of a fat basket, so one run then back to base to get out some bigger kit.

That was time well spent, the larger kit was way better suited (although could've easily gone the 7.8m and been nicely lit).

Tacked upwind properly for the first time this season, feeling quite good. Once up the top sent it for Nm runs which we fun.

Terry was out as well.

Paul was having so much fun he went out for a second run.

Good times

A good afternoon on the water in lightish wind. First time I have carried a 3L backpack so was a little off balance at first. After 20 kms i did not even notice it. Good company as always. Apart from the Fangster who had been sailing with all his friends at the bottom end of our patch. Poor little thing drove up to us cool kids to see if he could gain acceptance with the in group.

Guys and girl this is a chance for for us to show the generosity and kindness for which we are known. Pleas be kind to Fangy .He is not a bad fellow.

Well that was a chill little arvo session. Rigging was blissfully uncomplicated by BasilTheInconvenientParker deciding to chuck his kit, and probably some of Fingers' or Decrepit's in at Wamba Rd. With such a good start, sailing was really just one of those perfectly pleasant tours up and down the front paddock.

To spice things up a little, I tried out the last of the conventional delta type ins. This one is a keeper. The TPU flex ‘feathers’ and cut out are working really well to mitigate ventilation. I chopped most of the leading and mid-section fillet off to ensure I got plenty of messy water coming from the front end to test the effectiveness. At 8% it’s not a particularly powerful bit of kit, but happy enough to cope with the Avalon 7.0 on the AtomicFangyBarge150l.

I could push it out if I really tried, but generally recovery of attachment was a doddle. The only drama was on my first run uphill I touched down a bit hard at the top and put a crack in the fin. This little fella then managed to harvest every skerrick of weedy goodness, even when I stayed out wide. It was impossible not to end each run without the fin looking like I had run over Tom Selleck in his Magnum PI days. Despite that hairy mischief, the fin was still usable, just a bit more draggy. When I had the full moustache jammed in there the was unsurprisingly more prone to ventilating entirely too.
The next fin series of fins are high surface area, with very low root loading trapezoidal bits of kit; quite unconventional and they could be a bit of a nerdy fin fest.

cruisy conditions, decided to try my hand at an hour, test of fitness,

used the 60cm board 6.2 koncept and 23cm@40/60 weedy

Fin was probably the wrong desicon, I was picking up a lot of weed in the shallows, there was more there than I thought.

put the watch on heart rate, as I think I get exhausted when HR gets to high for too long.

So I was locked into a narrow band of water, too far out, the chop sent my HR too high, (into the red zone) and I had to slow down. Too far in and I had weed problems at the gybe.

I also cut the hour too short, had weed trouble at the start and didn't reset my time.

Should have given myself another 10m, that would have cut out the lousy start.

But I'm pleased, not a good result, but my startergy got me through the hour without a problem.

Judging by my past performance speed sailing, I was very dubious I'd have the energy to last the whole hour.

Apart from the gybes I grounded, by going in too shallow, I made them all.

So maybe next time I could manage a 20?

Here's the crayons
