Quick sail at S bend with Capn Calm. Fantastic to get on the water again after so long, but very disappointed to find my sailing fitness has disappeared without a trace.I tried out my latest $50 Gumtree find, a Windtech 278. Very skinny with a nose like Barry Manilow. I am sure it will  fly pretty nicely in the right conditions, but they were not to be found today. After a few attempts on this board I was well stuffed and had to break out the Party Barge. I got in a few more runs on that but whilst the mind was super keen, the flesh had already packed up and was home on the couch. The result was that Captain Calm handed out free tickets to the 'Windsurfing in winter' class and seemed to be flying around the place...until he did a Ricey...

But he can fill in the details on that one.

Yoyo suggested Len Howards, sailing over the rock garden, with very high tide sounded like a good idea. But when I checked, the tide was quite low and the wind wasn't getting in there real well. So decided to join Fangy for a change, Lots of nice flat water when I arrived, but that turned out to be due to hardly any wind!

So rigged the 5.8 and plugged into the 53 with the 20cm 55deg weedy in. As I was changing the wind filled in a bit and the chop started to appear, so thought I'd be better off with a deeper fin, so changed to the 25.5cm 35/45deg weedy. This felt really nice after more highly raked fins, but I got a couple of scares, big weedburgs! OK going out, they were easily visible, but coming back in exact opposite, couldn't see them until they were underneath you. So back in and change back to the 55deg, surprisingly this wasn't too bad in the chop, and I was enjoying myself. There's one thing to say about chop, if you don't look at the gps it feels really fast!

Got a bit over confident though started trying for alphas when the breeze cooperated enough, bounced the fin out at the start of a gybe and went over the front. Somehow managed to bruise the palm of my left hand, making it hard to grip the boom, so decided to have a cuppa and see if the pain would ease off. Half way through said cuppa Fangy returns worn out. Tide is coming in very fast and what was once reasonably flat, turned into a sea of whitecaps. Decided it was time to downrig, then discovered my new perscription sunnies only had one lens!

No wonder sailing back in felt a bit weird.

Good speed Rob....clearly a better breeze than The Capt'n and his student had.

Fangy, I thought I might find that you'd bought that WindTech....when I saw it there were ibises ( plural might be ibi?) using it as a crapper. $50 ..... tell him he's dreamin'.    Anyway, your fitness, or lack thereof, might be due to your increased cerebral activity gobbling up all the energy for your mussels, in a shellfish sort of way. Whelkum to advancing age....it ain't going to get better.

I'm off to find a hiding place from Firie....he's thundering up the coast and  threatening to take me over to Green Island and lose me on the reef.Surprised
