very choppy but some parts were flat had a all right run witch ended up being my last one when i was going 24 knot and nosed dived through a wave and crached over the front and when i came back up my board and sail was separated so i tried to connect it back up wich lead to a little ding in the deck so i just drifted back in so i did and then jordan helped me tack my board and sail back into shore after he sail in the he swam out.and anthony and dave are tring a new speed spot and it is blowing a gale threre so hope they get some good numbers

on fanatic 91 with north warp 5.8

headed off at 7;00am to henty river in the far south west of tasmainia sivilisation stops there.plan was to meet dave threre at 10;00am he was on his way from hobart witch is a four and a half hour drive.we met on time and then had to drive in 3-4 km on a sand track that was boggy and flooded in places.we got in as close as we could and rigged and then went out.wind was around 26 knts at the start first run on my falcon 79 was a 36.8 knot run with a 5m warp.then changed to the missile xs and then we spent the next three hours creeping our speeds higher and higher until on good puff came though to give dave and i out new pbs.we wernt on the best of the sand bar it was too broad so we road on a 250m strip on a slightly diferent angle this was good the after session i packed up and drove home.on the way over the cradle mountian link road it hailed and then snowed extreme sailing and extreme driving i think ive ernt a bourbonLaughing.

Sailed at Dorans Rd. Wind up and down and water was very lumpy but first time out for months so, happy to be on the water again.

Sounds like Henty was worth the trip in Perky. How's that bourbon going down?

Sailed the causeway at Pittwater. Some very strong gusts coming through but it was really patchy. Had the 08 Isonic 76, SSR 6.6 and Select 27cm fin. Really needed the 5.6 for those gusts but then would have been too under powered the rest of the time.

Finally got to try Henty River Mouth with Perks. Did a scoping run on the iSonic 86 and then straight to the 50L. Perks and I were trying to sail the main sandbar, but at that point it wasn't windy enough even though it was sailable down the bar. As the wind strengthened it went further to the north making this run too broad. We then decided to focus on a short narrow section further down and this is where we got our best runs. Not much room to slow down! Really pleased to get a few 40 knot runs in. Sailed 5.6 SSR on iSonic proto 50L.

Yeah, epic trip into the Henty River Mouth.  Good to suss it all out.  Appears that we need a real WNW (with lots of west) to really get the main run going.  I imagine the end of the sand bar, which is in the distance in the photo Perks posted, changes a lot.  Main run is about 350-400 m long and where we sailed was just over 200m.  Nice and easy spot to sail, once you get there!!

I haven't got a registered version of RealSpeed on my laptop (and am still on the West Coast of TAS), so haven't been able to calculate my speeds properly, but peak was over 41 (a PB)Smile

If that wind had been a bit more from the west ....

I'd found this spot google earthing a while ago. Is that where you were Anthony?  Looks like the river is only 35 metres wide.  That's a good effort, especially with ground rush on both sides!

hi ian,

yes that was the run 18 mouths or so ago but now it is completely changed unfortunely its cut out to sea making the run alot shorter and leaving the rest of it dead.

Thanks guys. The Teams Challenge appears to be pushing us all to try new spots and sail in conditions we wouldn't necessarily normally go out in. All good fun. What a month for so many sailors. Hard to keep up with all the sessions being posted. Hardie, hope you get your 40 soon!
