took a days leave due to a promising forcast and was lucky enough to get some of the wind promised!

i would say its prob been close to a year and half since i have actually thought about changing from a 5.0 to a 4.4 and i woulldnt call myself a heavy weight.....real wind at lastTongue out

it was good to get back on to srm turf at yo yo,s and get some (unusual) port tack sailing in.

wind was very square to the point where we where sailing back to where we started easily in hind sight it was pretty well set up for Alphas but that was the last thing on everyones mind....very happy to get a 40.23 on the clock face!

Woooweee!!!

Took the morning off, and took the gamble of the adventurous option of a two hour drive southbound. I had originally planned to go Woodies, and in retrospect, glad I didn't.

Cheesegraters is a just like Kanaha in Maui, except a lot more thigh deep mud, rocks, revolting hyper-saline water, and no showers, lawn, palm trees, chicks in bikinis......but I digress.....what it did have today was very flat water, and plenty of wind. Sure, it was gusty and the course very square, but a bigger, better sailor than me could have got 43+ down there today, and that's prretty quick for WA.

Used the trusty Manta 49, KA Lockwood / McDougall 23 and KA Koncept 5.8, then changed down to the previously unused 5.0 when it picked up. At it's best it was too strong, even for the 5.0 (with 5kg lead) and my fastest run ended in a big stack which I believe Snides may have captured on video for your viewing pleasure.

GT31 x 2 display speeds 40.83 & 40.87.

Very happy to just pip my PB, and also stoked for the other PB getters...but I won't steal their thunder.

Melville beach, lots of wind but very choppy due to storm surge made it impossible to get any decent runs.

Well done to Snides, Ado and Norts who rolled the dice and came up good. Well done to Crash from MM - cant wait for the vids and pics from Snides.

I sailed Point Walter from abt 3pm for a couple of hours - 10 to 25 kn - same effect as a cheese grater on the gonads!

mad day... started at Melville with super high tide and rough as hell. 6.6m SP53 and CL27S. The wind started to pick up a lot and I was getting smashed. Had a few lose-it moments and was looking pretty ugly on the water. So I came in and changed down to 5.8m. By the time I got out it was gusting over 40kts and just crazy rough. I got smashed again. Then the wind picked up for the main front and I crouched behind my board holding it all down as the hail and rain drilled my ears. After the front the wind promptly swung WSW so the convoy moved to Pt Walter. Unfortunately the wind also dissapeared. So it was back on the 6.6m SP53 and CL27s. Very hard to pick the gusts, and spent most of the time underpowered. Right at the end the wind seemed to come back a bit when it swung back to the west. Got a hugely powered barrelling run and lost it past the sandbar at 38kts according to the GPS. Glad that I got unhooked early on. After a few solid bounces it was all good. Went back in and took the 5.8m/SP44 for a burn. Very comfy in the increased wind but it was now way too broad... Looks like everyone had fun today! Maybe another ripper tomorrow.

I would have killed for the stinking ooze, the so f#*king hypersaline water [that it makes you puke if you ingest it], the long walk to the water, the gustiness, the rain etc etc.

Great work guys - who dares wins!! Enjoy the moment.

cheers guys...the water in preston is unbelievably salty...i did a bail out and swallowed a bit of it and it took me a couple of minutes of coughing and sluttering and eye rubbing to get going again. when i hit the beach i doubled over and had a small chuckTongue out

ado's eyes where a shocking red!!!Surprised this aspect of yo yo's was definetly the hardest thing to contend with for me anyway!

i havent got my cable for the camera here so i will try and post from work in the morning...a pic of crashers R&D testing for maui sails booms and a short long distance vid of ado stacking it at the end of his 40 run (apologies in advance for the laugh Ado!)Laughing

Awesome speeds by all of you. I think this is the first session I've seen when Slowie wasn't the fastest so bigger congrats to Ado, recycle and Snides!

Just as an adjunct, is there a theory that the high salinity of cheesegraters water contributes to better flotation and therefore higher speeds??? And also, if you think that's muddy crappy water come sail in Narrabeen Lagoon one dayTongue out

Congrats to all you guys on the PB fest! Although i think anyone with a 4.4-5.0 would have been hitting 45's if theyd sailed the squall at creery XD.

As my speeds wont count and it takes 15min to start the comp with realspeed >< ill post later.. probably after a sess tomorrow or on sat. For all those wondering where the F*(& creery is heres a lil GE image. Run shown was in about 30kts wind, NW-NNW. Peak of 39, avg 36. line shows fast section of run. Whats nice about sailin here is that the shallowish water keeps te chop down enough to allow reasonable bear-aways, whichwas nessacary with the square angle today.

For sam: we really should have tried your  run in the middle. had a look on GE and its much better than i previously thought. AND ON STARBOARD!!!!! might have been a little underwater today though. you should give it a shot if you get out tomorrow as the depth should still be pretty good.... not often that the water would be high enough to sail in there. plus you could check out that other run at the same time :D

I'm glad some of the other SRMers made the effort to do the drive down there! Good onya lads for boosting the SRM pointage. I gave it a miss for the reasons elmo suggested- and I would have had to have negotiated those traffic hazards identified by the "MH" numberplates. But it seems like it was the place to go today for speed action. The wind angle at cheesgraters needs to be spot on since the bank is so straight. So I figured it would be a short and violent mission down there, with all the fun sludge to deal with. Bugger that. Unfortunately the wind backed off heaps back here on the swan river after the front came through- otherwise Point Walter would have been going off for speed. Direction was spot on for a few hours. Maybe tomorrow... still plenty of wind forecast.

I can't blieve you just shruged it of Chris, that was a fair sized hit, didn't displace as much water as Crasher but still very impressive

Chris Adamson

It wasn't so bad - I had already unhooked coz I knew it was coming after spinning out. It's the sudden ones that get you when you are still hooked in that do the damage - like Crasher's. I saw the big man go down in vivid detail right before my eyes and it was hideous!

OMG, what a crash, and healthy reaction in  the background Tongue out. I haven't crashed at speed for a long time (thank you God), but last time it was pretty funny, with rolling on the water for some 10-15 meters, nice soft crash, not like this one :D...
