Snake (23888km): Big day at melville with Mark, Hugely overpowered at times. Hanging on for grim death towards the end Sonic 85, Ram 6.3, FOm 28 Weedster
Mineral (4665km): Quick blast after work, 5.7 started out with but was way overpowered, ran out of time to down size. Got wet.

lao shi (41082km): Wow! Hard day. Wind didn't drop as forecast! Should have changed down. Koncept 5.8, JP84, 30 pointer, 29 elmo weedy, 24 wailing banshee elmo weedy. +5kg at times. Started the day thinking about rigging the 7.5 and it built as I unpacked the car. Rigged the 5.8 and put a pointer on and was quickly over done. Came in, put on the weight jacket and put more downhaul on and followed Claude out the back only to be met by chop coming from all directions and huge holes. Got very frustrated and eventually gave up and sailed / dogged back to the car park. Wind came back in and got too lively on the pointer. I still can not get downwind speed on a pointer on this board. The fin just kicks uncontrollably and unpredictably even with weight. So switched to the weedy got a fair nautical run with one hole in it. Then dropped again and went back to the pointer without weight. Wind filled in properly and the water became more regular so switched to the wailing elmo weedy. Had to patch another big hole in the leach and the bottom cam has torn the luff on both sides. I may have to accept that this sail is ready for the heap. It has done stirling service. Put weight back on. Slugged out the distance whilst still going for speed and all the fastest runs were in this last session. Fastest run of the day was in to the car park on the very final run! Good to see a number of crew, Pointman, Chris on way out as I left and Chad sheltering from the wind. He says he has a compatibility issue with his GPS. Not sure if it is his computer or him? Also a few SRM including Slowboat going ridiculously quickly as usual. Go Pinnas!
Pointman (25522km): Pretty windy at Melville with some gusts over 25K. Unfortunately I believed the forecast and packed my big gear, so hit the water on the Futura 111 + 6.6 Koncept + 36 Goldwing. Well powered to quite over-powered at times on this combo. Futura continues to impress, it was very controllable today in at times wild conditions. In fact I was having a ball and enjoying dialling in the new kit when I had to curtail my session after a big stack. I was fully lit in the chop, doing around 30K, and I'd unhooked 'cos it was getting a bit hairy. Dunno what happened exactly but I went flying over the front making contact with the mast and then the nose of the board. Shoulder is killing me and I've got a nice cut on the eye socket (where's that 'Black eye' emoticon?). I'm gonna have a nice bruise on the shoulder tomorrow. Hopefully it comes good 'cos I was psyched for big one Sat .

Chris Porter (11725km): Feeling humbled. Felt totally out of control in the chop most of the time. Was lucky enough to pass close by Lockwood doing 39 knots through 30cm chop. Touching down on the water every 5 meters, fin totally out to dry in the troughs. MENTAL Naish SP91; Koncept 5.8; FO Weedster 260 (fail) |
