Hobart, TAS, AU Sorell end of the causway. Rigged the 7.8,had one run and the wind arrived so had to change to a 6.3. Still very gusty but had some good runs on quite flat water which is a bit of a change. JP 68 ,loft blade

Could'nt get it going today....Maybe a little gun shy from my last crash a few sessions ago. Well done to the guys with pb's!!

Hobart, TAS, AU Started with big gear but as we were walking out through the shallows it changed from NW to SW and howled. Changed back to small gear and had a good short sail in gusty conditions before weather turned to rain and cracked up completely.

Great sail at port Sorell with some of the team. Wind was gusty and the speed run not all that flat but was happy with a couple of 40kt plus runs. Isonic 86, Loft Blade 5.6, c3 Venom 32

Port Sorrell, TAS, AU

Great sail today.  Steve and I arrived at the carpark to see the sand bar just surfacing and the wind looking pretty good, so didn't take much convincing to rig up!!

Rigged the Reflex III 5.6 and took the iSonic 86 slim for a few runs.  First run was 39.77 knots.  Still a bit choppy.  As soon as the main run smoothed out got the iSonic W49 out with C3 SS21 and got a 41.45 knot run straight up.  Wind was broad and not much bear-away required.  Stoked to get a 43.77 on the dial with a 41.98 10 sec.  A few more 40 knot runs, but wind started to become a bit lighter as the run really flattened out.

Good to see so many out and so a fair few PB's!!!  Well done to all.

About time we got some decent wind. Good day on the water, but frustrating missing the best two gusts sailing back upwind. Anyway well done team, some good pb's were achieved!! Unlucky jordan broke a batten before he hit the waterYell

Had to add in my favourite shot, i now have on canvas. Props to Lutz..

Posting an old session -- A frustrating day, first time back on the water in months. Wind picked up after I waded out, was way overpowered. Came back in changed sails and the wind died after about 500m. :-(

Top effort guys, Paul fantastic job on the 86 well done. Top results Izaak, Anthony that was a big off I can understand, on a bright note 39.6 is moving. Gordo and Big Bear well done on the causeway results, I think we will get some special numbers there this season for sure. I was to sick to sail today but I am looking forward to next fronts. Looking forward to Steve and Daves posts. Cheers Russ

Yep well done Steve, Paul and Ben for your PB's.  Two people getting the big FOUR ZERO for the first time is fantastic.

Izaak, you've got me on the 2-sec spot record when I post via KA72, but in GPS Results I get 43.416 (just beating your record of 43.387).  If you posted in GPS Results, should I?  Undecided

Is gps results realspeed or some other program? Looks to be lifting results up a bit over ka72. Congratulations Steve wooooohoooooo 40 nice result. The Red Barron strikes again!! Top effort Dave!!!!

Realspeed and KA72 appear to give the same results (I often check my tracks in Realspeed and then post via KA72 - data doesn't change).  GPS Results must calculate the raw data differently and often (always?) gives a higher 2-second result.  My broad generalisation is that most of the guys only posting to the GPS Speed surfing website use GPS Results, while most people only posting to the GPS TC use KA72.  If you're posting to both sites, then you probably want to be consistent with your data (so it's the same in GPSSS and GPSTC), so you'd use the same software to post to each site (and probably the one that reads the highest).

Bushfire, the new Severne Reflex III 5.6 is an awesome sail.  Very grunty in the lighter winds (more so than earlier models), but still fantastic top speed.

Thanks guys, yeah just scrapped that one in phew. Bushfire there are 4 of us in Tas who have the R4 5.6 and we love it. Seems to be a step a head than the previous model.

Nice speeds.

If you guys are getting higher speeds with GPS Results, chances are that it doesn't use trapezoidal integration for the speed calcs.

KA72 does use trapezoidal int and GPSAR has it as an option.

The reason your display speeds get worked lower is that the display is the 1 second  speed and normally the 2 sec ends up slower.

Doesn't real speed average there 2 sec over 3 seconds?? Where results just average 2sec plus rounds off to 3decimal places. Every now and then real speed is quite close to results for me. But the times where it isn't it's like +.1 or .2 in results. Now I get why alot of people call realspeed 'slow speed'

Hi Izaak,

"Now I get why alot of people call realspeed 'slow speed' "

Maybe they should be calling it 'accurate speed' ..........  the truth is often a bummer Smile

I have alos found that KA72 will sometimes give higher Alphas than gpsresults. All are very minor differences though so I dont think it matters too much....
