Melville Beach WA

Fun day with quite a few out, the wind was quite steady around 11 so managed to stay reasonably powered up through the NM.

It became gustier after lunch so to retain my sanity I swapped to the M112 and even went a fraction faster.

Mostly under-powered on the 6m sail - the SL30 was magic as usual.

Great to see Sausage transition from plane to planing in an hour and smashing out quick runs Cool

Melville Beach, WA, AU

Packed the car this morning intending to bail from work early and spend the better part of the arvo at Melville.

Got to work and some bugger had booked me for a meeting smack bang in the middle of my planned session Yell

After reluctantly accepting that blowing off a client meeting to go windsurfing probably wasn't a good idea, I launched Plan B and set off for an extended lunch break.  On the water just before noon and off just before one.  Didn't quite manage an hour, but that was only because the breeze conked out.

Fun little sesh Smile.  Way choppy and I struggled to find any real speed, but had some fun blasts.

Overpowered at first on the M112 + 7.6TR9 + 38 CL38 set-up (I figured I didn't have time for grovelling), but it settled down a bit later on.

Made it back to the office and no one even noticed I was gone for 2.5 hours Cool

Fun session at Melville after a long crawl down the coast in morning traffic… Nice to catch up with a few of the crew again and meet Brian and Hans-Christian.  Rigged a 6.0 and it worked quite well (for me) in today’s conditions - only got caught out in a couple of lulls. A little more top speed would have been nice but overall I was quite pleased with the performance of the vintage combo.

Definitely nice use of the lunch break Greg - I like your style, good onya for getting out for a sail. Wish I had a job like that. ;-)

Well done Hooksey - congrats on the 2 PBs - Keep 'em coming!

Fun gusty session. Only 2nd time out with the GPS so happy to crack 30knots. It was not easy at it was very choppy but I managed to lay a few nice lines in the middle of the river heading north.

Tried one of CL's fins and must say that they are good for down wind speed..! (not sure I can justify more fins though ... Cry)

Good to put facesto to Anita and Geoff!

Melville Beach, WA, AU 85 Sonic, 4.9K, 28 vector

Rgged during a squall that nearly knocked me over, so I changed from my initial assessment of the conditions and rigged small. Consequently I was comfortable in the gusts but way underpowered the rest of the time. Struggled even to have enough power to waterstart. Spent a lot of time grovelling. The water was choppy but in a fun kind of way rather than being too challenging and bumpy.

It was great to meet Sausage and introduce him around and see him enjoying himself in a new (flat water) spot on very fine borrowed gear.

A very pleasing team turnout too. It is always a joy to sail with you guys!

Desperate attempt to get out after the W word.

River looked iffy so went to Leighton which was a thunderous washing machine and dead onshore.

Headed for South Beach and experienced underpowered on 4.5 on launching which switched to massively overpowered and then shut off after about 25 mins resulting in a bobble back to base.

Some fun jumps and turns while it lasted.

Great team turnout on a wet windy workday! Thanks for the support.

I was just telling Lao that Geoff is our new energiser bunny. You were smashing it through that chop mate! Well done on the distance.

Nice to meet you Hooksey, congratulations on some very healthy PB's there.

Excellent naughty JJ, your specialty. Congrats on top river speed of the day too (we don't count Slowboat - he's in a different class)

Just remember we need two speedsters...

Good to catch up with you again, Pointy. Never afraid to hammer through chop in wild conditions. Glad you enjoyed yourself and thanks for a good contribution to the team score.

Well done GS braving the cold for his first winter session. It is all good practice.

It was fun having Sausage along as an honorary Pinnaroo for the day. We thought it was choppy but Sausage was excited because it was so flat! (he only sails on the ocean.)He was also really excited about having other people to sail with and talk windsurfing with!  He did brilliantly on borrowed gear and made some flying runs too.

I'll post my (rather uninspiring) numbers tomorrow. Today was more about socialising than sailing Embarassed

Anita,

Thanks once again for your hospitality and going to an incredible amount of effort in welcoming me to Perth.  I really appreciate you organising pizza get together - I had a great night meeting a fabulous bunch of people.

JJ, thank you for kindly loaning your gear for a sail.  Remember that there'll always be some gear for you to sail when you come to Yeppoon. That's one sweet nm too.

Really enjoyed sailing the Swan river and hopefully I get back there one day soon.

Big k's Geoff and congrats on the PBs Hooksey
