lao shi (41082km): Cold morning, sailing up wind from Wallyworld East to the Melville post. Jonah was out early and flying joined by Recycle, Rowen and later JJ and Hardpole. Wasn't game to follow JJ through the flats and his remodelled carbon fin says why that was a good idea! Best mile runs were early on and speed later. Never really felt comfortable today but respectable numbers for the big gear and a good work out. LB 7.8, SX77, CF42
GS (4113km): Melville Beach, WA, AU. Kode 122, CR 7.5, Drake 38cm. Had a few nice long run. Somehow managed to put yet another hole in the board so that will give me something to fix.
Jonah (2414km): Point Walter, WA, AU Took my wave kit to the beach but it was too offshore and no waves. had the slalom gear as a back up plan so headed to point walter east. looked less than inviting and considered bailing when Mark arrived and i thought would be rude not to go out together! Very gusty to the west in lieu of Dalkeith but pretty good up towards melville. First time sailing the Reflex 4 and didnt have enough downhaul to start, put a bit more on and it felt better. Was hoping to get near a 30 nautical mile but wasant even close :( Good fun though and plenty of old faces turned up (Norts,JJ and Rowen) which was cool. JJ (25827km): Point Walter WWE Fun morning on the big kit - got out a bit late but still planed 80% of the time. Sweet runs between Melville and WWE about 100m from the shore, some nice flat sections although a bit too shallow at times... Should have started upwind more to get a proper length NM - kept running out of water. Mistral 137, GPS 8m, CL SL2 42 (with serrated tip).

Obelix (3335km): Point Walter, WA, AU 135L/7.5m I wasn't very hopeful, but still decided to try. Didn't know where to go around Attadale, so when I saw David rigging up, was happy to park next to him. Got some great rigging tips from David. Mainly up and down but had several nice and long runs. I could see JJ pink sail zipping back and forth. David told me where the shallows are, and I found them all right Congratulations GS. Sorry about your board.
Pointman (25840km): Late morning blast at Majestic. Had commitments earlier (family outing to a cafe in Northbridge for brekky, exploring the new hood after our move to North Perth ), so it was 11 by the time I got on the water and the breeze was getting patchy. Went large, Patrik 135 + 9.6 Code Red + 48 Vector Volt carbon, and was mostly planing on the set-up, but only really powered up on a few occasions. In retrospect the Formula combo woulda been a better choice in the 12-18K breeze, but I enjoyed the big slalom combo. I thought about grabbing the Formula board on a few occasions, but Huey kept luring me back across the river with some nice puffs. Forgot the GPS, or at least it wasn't where I thought it was, so I sailed 'unplugged'. Didn't matter, my team mates smoked me and I doubt I got much over 27-28K. Nice to get out, it's been a while And good to catch up with a few of the usual suspects
Jeff (13717km): Point Walter East, plodded up to Melville area but then got a few good gusts and got planing. Good fun, by the time I got back eveyone had packed up. Did a fair bit if fin dragging will have to get the sand paper onto that. iSonic and koncept 7.3 |
