(Puf-) fin (15562km):
Peelinlet, Coodanup, WA, AU. Another graet afternoon of sliding around in the smooth. Wind was coming in nicely, Fangy was allredy in the proses of rigging up and as I was starting to unloud sail & board Decrepit arrived. Rigged the 6m Lightning on the old custom slalom with the 50 degr. supaweedy and took off up to the paches of weed, yeeee haaaa granmaaaaa.... oh what fun it was.!! a verry big smilly...
A couple of sallow sand banks, not too bad but dose blunt the fins leeding edge.

Stretch (31360km): Safety Bay, WA, AU. iso100, X15 6.4m, 30cm Choco weedy Heading home from work in Perth, decided to go to SB instead of Mandurah as it looked like the wind was fizzing out. good wind at SB so decided to just sail the pond as I didnt have my small board. Gusty but good blast, dropping off twards the end
Decrepit (54652km): Another fantastic arvo of Fangy fun!!! Over 60km/hr on dead flat smooth water, nothing quite like it! But I was a bit dissapointed when I arrived, didn't look all that flat, thought I should have joined yoyo at Liptons, which did look very nice. Rigged the 5.8, plugged into the 48cm with Keefs 17cm deltoid. Headed out towards Boundary Island, and passed Fangy coming back, didn't look to be anything wrong so kept going, still thinking, "where's all the flatwater". But as I got closer, a golden line started to appear on the water, sunshine on surface weed, YES! And sure enough right out the back in waist deep water a 550m X 200m patch of weed all the way to the surface, wind a tad over 20kts, and mainly pure glass! I was soon joined by Fin and Fangy, who'd forgotten my influence and gone back in to increase downhaul. Of course as soon as he got back out he had to let it off again! Wind was a tad gusty, which were very hard to pick, so my top speeds were a bit peaky, didn't make for good 10s, although the runs were plenty long enough. Pleased with the alpha, on Keefs fin, I can't push through the turns quite as hard, for fear of it coming out of the water, but it does gybe in heavy weed without any drama! But disappointed with the NM, should have gone for one when the wind was up instead of waiting for the home run. Any way here's the tracks.
And yes, Fin there is a channel, I didn't quite get there! Bottomed out a few times on that sand bank. And here's a close up of the weed bank.
Elmo (31521km): Tabou Rocket Wide 108, NP RSR E6 7.8m, LE 36cm Didn't hit the water till after 5 tonight, went out for my lumpy goodness and had a ball (the right one Huey scored the left), twas very southerly with I suspect even a hint of east getting into it. Did a couple of runs over to Claudesvile, first run was into the moguls of Claudesville North where I definately got my fill and more on lumpy goodness. Second run back was well lit as the wind had picked up a tad but definately brought a smile to my face belting over and into cobblers. As the wind was hanging in there I finally decided to attempt a bit of tuning as the board was getting a bit front happy waving at all and sundry, 10mm forward for the mast track and woo hoo a lot more civilised, a few more runs and decided toflagg it as it was after 6. Gonna have to start tuning these wee beasties me thunks. Great fun session.

fangy (22667km): Fangy's @ Boundary Island weed bank. Briiliant afternoon. Post more later ( snotgobblers want feeding - surprise surprise)
Things that you say to your kids that come back to haunt you. When my youngest daughter asked me the deep and difficult questions at age six, I had tended to be a little blasé about the answer. This is a mistake. On the way home fro school the other day I was informed that yet again I was wrong and roundly castigated by now 11 year old daughter for embarrassing her when it came to the schoolyard discussion. Apparently the meaning of 'gay' is not, as I had told her all those years ago, 'Men who use a lot of hair gel' . "ACTUALLY Dad it is something else" and once again, I apparently I know nothing important or worth knowing...again...
So with my barely adequate general knowledge I hit the soup at Fangy's with Decrepit and dolFin. I threw in the F2waterlog Koncept 6.6 and Delta to suit. I was immediately overpowered but thought I would muscle it out. This lasted 10 mins and then I gave up. My 30 knot nauti, which is a PB for me a Fangy's was the downhill run back to base. It rated pretty high on the sphincter moment scale, right up there with prostate exam I reckon. However both were pretty satisfying at the other end. I came in and cranked on the downhaul. I had neglected to take into account that Captain Calm was now heading out. So immediately I headed out again the wind dropped and I was underdone. Release a bit of downhaul, ease out haul. I did this a few times until eventually I was back at the same settings from when I had started. Jamie described it as a ride in the back seat of a German limo. If that is the case the three of us drove it like we stole it and flogged that magic carpet ride. Fantastic speed run just in the Lee of the weed bank of a speedy glide in the bank itself. Either way it was brilliant. DolFin always looking so balanced and composed and the Captain showing how the professionals do a bear away, time after time. It's been a long time since I had a good sail on the little F2 log but today made up for it.Even the mullet fishermen putting out long nets across the channel home could not dampen it, so with a whole heap of top 5 Fangy scores, well you know the rest. TOP TEN FANGY DAY! |
