3611 days ago 2 categories Great day Fangy's with yet another cast of thousands.
The day started with Raygun dropping by to pick up a Delta, then Geoff P and then AC1 and at that stage I thought I had better get my carcass down to Fangy's before my neighbour gets suspicious about all these cars with dodgy characters pulling into the driveway.
I got down to S Bend and it was very marginal. Things quickly took a turn for the worse when Mineral turned up ready to weave his own special magic on any gear that might be laying around. Just when you think it cant get any worse, Fairybob rolls into town.
At that point I sent out a distress call to the rest of the Mob to get on down before I was overwhelmed.
They dutifully turned up over the afternoon and saved me from having to deal with the terrible twosome by myself.
Fairybob then cracked out his kit.He seemed really pleased with the colour coordination of it all. I suppose a 'dark pink' board and a dark pink sail matching with a dark pink stripe in his boardies is impressive. He did try and tell me it was red but i dont think he fooled anyone. Mind you with my colour blindness I wasnt feeling confident about calling him out about his shades of pink kit.
In an effort to get away quickly i whacked a delta into his board and quickly rigged myself. The Koncept 7.5 matched up with the Delta20. It was a horribly underdone sail and fin combo for the conditions initially, but as the wind finally decided to get into gear at about 4.00 ish I ended up being pretty comfortable.
I took off with Geoff P and took him on a guided tour of the flats and then up to the top weed bank at Boundary Island. He thanked me by taking every opportunity to burn me off and generally smoke me on all points of sail.
Bugger that, so i headed back down to the flats and generally just enjoyed blasting around, carving the smooth and getting in the way of the two kiters that had the bad form to turn up.
It was sensational seeing all the guys out charging and having their own little Groove in the Smooth session. Smiles all round. Shout outs to Decrepit, Fin,Wazzasinking,Paul,Geoff,Mineral,Fairybob were the order of the day as we crossed paths again and again.
I was just about to call it a day when I spied another sail that i didnt recognise. I thought it might be one of Stropoo's Gaye Pryde numbers, but unbelievably it turned out to be one of our teammates that up till know no one really believed existed. Impaler was on the water! Incredibly late, in fact so late he made our usual nocturnal sailor, Paul, look positively early for a change.
But with the sun going down I knew it was time to go and sort out snotgobblers so I had one final run down the flats with Wazza. It was probably the highlight of the day. Both of us in the smooth, me following and just plain brilliant to sit on his aft quarter and watch the sail flex and the spray fly off the tail as we flew across the mirror stuff, leaving a little tiny white vortex fin trail through the weed.
No doubt about it, no big numbers from me but absolutely a Top Ten Fangy Day

Great powered up formula blast from the sailing club. Had the by to myself as the Hobie 16 nationals were on and they were using the the outer course. Did 4 laps of the standard nacra course. Got some nice powered up runs deep off the breeze. Tried some different settings and the kit felt sweet when the wind had filled later on.

3611 days ago 2 categories Another fun day at Fangys, wind didn't get to predicted 25kts, but then we really didn't expect it to.
Great to finally catch up with Firey, the Impaler and son Mike. Nice to have Geoff and Mineral visit as well, the usual Fangys crew also there, Paul, Wazza, Fin and of course Fangy himself.
I started out with the big girl with 6.6 and giant delt thingoe. Didn't take long and board and fin were too big, so came in and changed to the 48 with keef's 17cm deltoid.
That felt a lot better, but still couldn't get as much speed as I thought I should have, so joined Paul and Geoff at the outside weedbank and tried some alphas.

Finally got the GT31 to work - Thanks Captain Mike!
The RRD shitstorm 138L didn't really get cranking with a Gaastra Cross 6.9 and 22 delta - gybes were more Tokyo drift than a nice arc (first time with the delta) but then found a couple of kilos of weed stuck between board and fin so that may have had something to do with it! Very shallow smooth groovin though - looking forward to tomorrow with a bit more wind and a bit more local knowledge.....

Got the call from Fangy after lunch. I'd just spent the morning in the Motor Registry Office, converting the Soobie from Qld to WA plates so I was just in a wonderfully chilled frame of mind. Not at all tense. S-Bend looked like a car yard! I engaged low-range and ground my way up to the crispy grass end to rig up on the last 2 blades of green. Fin, The Capt'n, Mineral, FirieBob ( his compass had malfunctioned on his way back to Cairns) and Fangy were already there ( Fangy was still talking to me so I figured the QE11 was still afloat). Thought I'd try a slightly larger pouch in the Speedos today and rig the 7.8m2. Looks of surprise from my team mates at such a testosterone-filled choice but what the hell....I've been travelling underpowered for the last few sessions so....let's just do it! No more limp asparagus for Wazza. Impaler and Impaler Minor arrived just as I was ready so I gave them comprehensive FangyLand navigational instructions at light speed and hoped that they would have total recall. Launched from S-Bend and plenty of power into the Nairns Black Hole and back out again, the plan being to get up to the top but the sparkly smooth stuff had it's wicked way with me...I couldn't help but bear away into it and, like a pre-schooler, stayed there all afternoon, oblivious to everything else. Magic. Overtaking the 2 kiters upwind and downwind, until they went home in tears, buzzing Wokkers and generally being selfish. That's why The Capt'n doesn't give me any complicated team instructions; only simple stuff like "don't ram anyone in our team" and "don't forget the vent plug". Good downhill challenge against Fangy on the way home but he is the FasterMeister. Just give me a few minutes with his board and I can nobble it. A thoroughly good afternoon with the right sail up for a change. Bring on the week end!
